Sharks fall 3-2 in overtime

- By Jerry Mcdonald The Mercury News (TNS)

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Make it a perfect 10.

The Buffalo Sabres spoiled Evander Kane’s return to his former-stomping grounds Tuesday, extending their winning streak to 10 games with a 3-2 win over the Sharks in overtime.

The winning streak ties a Sabres franchise record set in January 1984 and matched in October 2006. The Sabres are 4-0 in overtime and 2-0 in shootouts during their winning streak.

After spending three seasons in Buffalo, Kane joined the Sharks in a deal at the trade deadline last winter. His addition helped propel the Sharks into the playoffs last spring. He nearly won the game for the Sharks on an odd-man rush late in the third, but he flipped his backhander wide.

Pavelski led the Sharks out of a two-goal deficit by scoring a pair of goals in the final 8:31 of the third period. The Sharks captain cut the Sabres lead in half at 11:29 of the third, one-timing a cross-ice pass from Burns for his team-leading 14th goal. Then, he stuffed the puck in from the side of the net on a Sharks power play at 16:42 of the third, scoring his team-leading 15th of the season.

Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc earned assists on the tying goal. With a two-goal night, Pavelski now has eight goals and 12 points in eight games.

Rasmus Ristolainen opened the scoring at 14:42 of the second, dancing around Brent Burns with a dipsy-doodle move before he beat Jones by lifting the puck into the top shelf. Nathan Beaulieu added an insurance goal at 4:14 of the third, punching in a through-the-slot pass from Sam Reinhart after Burns lost him on the weak side.

Martin Jones also put together an impressive performance in the Sharks goal crease, making 28 saves. Across the ice, Carter Buffalo Sabres goaltender Carter Hutton makes a glove-side save on a wrist-shot by San Jose Sharks left winger Marcus Sorensen in the first period at the Key Bank center in Buffalo, N.Y. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Hutton put together an equally-impressive performance with 36 saves on 38 shots.

With the loss, the Sharks

(12-8-5) are now 0-1-1 on their five-game road trip. The Sharks will return to action Wednesday in Toronto.
