Yuba College mens basketball records its sixth win over De Anza

Local teams continue tournament play

Yuba College men’s basketball saw a 84-72 non-league victory over the De Anza Dons on Friday night.

Brandon Recek and Charnpreet Bansal led the team with 14 points each.

Bansal also contribute­d seven rebounds.

Stevie James had 12 points on the night and Kameron Warrens had a double-double with 10 rebounds and points each.

The 49ers (6-3) have only played one home game so far this season, but their next three games are at home, two of which are next week.

Yuba takes on College of the Siskiyous on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then prepare for their game against Sierra College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Following that, they will play league rival Los Medanos on Dec. 20 at home at 6 p.m.

Girls Basketball Marysville 24, Live Oak 32

In Live Oak – The Indians try to come from behind to defeat the Lions, but were unable to reach their goal on Friday night.

Coach Ike Prince said five of his starters have to settle academic eligibilit­y issues from their transfer to the school before they can take to the court.

Despite the obstacle the team faces at the moment, the girls still played a hardfought game.

Reina Hudson had 14 rebounds and eight points.

Angie Vargas made two 3-pointers helping her along to the eight points she had during the game.

“They played really good in the second half, only allowing Live Oak to score eight points,” Prince said. “We just were already down from the first half and we couldn’t comeback.”

The Indians (0-4) are preparing to host the Les Shwab tournament next week. New Life Christian 34,

Faith Christian 22 In Yuba City – The Crusaders defeated the hosting Lions on Friday during the Faith Christian Holiday Classic.

New Life Christians’ Courtney Hruksa scored 10 points, while Haley Rogers and Shaylee Pelechowic­z added eight a piece.

Faith Christian’s Avery Johns had 14 points and Lilli Elliott eight rebounds.

The Crusaders play Esparto today.

The Lions (0-3) play against their opponent at 4 p.m. East Nicolaus 29,

Loyalton 20 In Biggs – The Spartans held their own Friday night against Loyalton when they defeated them by nine points giving them their first win of the season so far.

Jane Minigoz racked up 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah O’conner adding six points and rebounds each.

East Nicolaus plays in (2-1) the consolatio­n round at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Biggs Tournament.

The junior varsity team remains undefeated as they took down Etna 39-26.

Taylor Rocucci scored 15 points and had seven steals, while Remington Hewitt added nine points and 10 rebounds to her score sheet.

The junior girl Spartans held to the championsh­ip game in the Bigg tournament tomorrow at 6 p.m. Wheatland 61, Sutter 55 In Colusa – The Pirates defeated the Huskies in the Colusa tournament to advance to the championsh­ip round.

Logan led the way for the team with 24 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and steals, and five blocks.

Alexis Durham was right behind her with 20 points, three rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block.

Kayla Potter rounded out the top three with 11 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Wheatland (3-0) plays the championsh­ip round at 7:30 p.m. Boys Basketball Marysville 87, Anderson 67 In Wheatland – The Indians add another W to the column with their win over the Cubs in the Wheatland tournament.

Illyhas Rafiq had six 3-pointers out of the 22 points he made on the night.

Blake Clavelle made 15 points, while Malikiahha­rris and Quinton Hall added 13 a piece.

Harris aslso had four rebounds and assists each.

The Indians (2-0) face Red Bluff at 3:30 p.m. River Valley 37,

Heritage 81 In Mckinleyvi­lle – The Falcons had a rough night against the Patriots, where the loss by more than 40 points.

Despite the loss, Saahil Sandhar still got the ball through the net for 11 points and both Dante Montgomery and Sahib Sharma scored 8 points a piece.

Sharma also had three rebounds.

River Valley (1-1) face their next opponent in the tournament today. New Life Christian 34,

Faith Christian 69 In Yuba City – The Lions defeated the Crusaders in the Faith Christian Holiday Classic Tournament­on Friday.

Nikko Rodriguez led the team with 23 points, followed by Bend George 16 and Tye Morrison with 12 points and 11 rebouds giving him another double-double.

The Lions (2-1) play Stockton Christian for championsh­ip at 5:30 p.m.

Junior varsity Sutter 71, Casa Roble 42 In Placervill­e – The junior Huskies defeat the Rams by a wide margin on Friday night in the Gold Dust Tournament.

Aryan Sharma scored 20 points, while Eli Carlos and Gaven Gardner both added 13 more a piece.

The team were 73 percent at the free throw line.

The Huskies (1-1) play in a consolatio­n game.

Girls Soccer Live Oak 2-0 in Feather River soccer tournament

In Oroville – The Lions went 6-0 against Lassen and 4-1 against Winters on Friday in tournament.

Coach Mike Owen said the team play well against Lassen.

“They did a good job defensivel­y, although we missed a few shots on goal we did make at least four different goal scores,” Owen said. “In the game against Winters it went back and forth in the first half.”

Owen said Winters scored the first goal of their game, which is rare for his team to allow, but overall his teams played really well.

Live Oak (4-0, 1-0) play two games today, the first is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. Marysville 1-1 in Feather River soccer tournament

In Oroville – The Indians were shutout by Winters 2-0, but then turned it around and did the same thing to Lassen by scoring three unanswered goals.

Anastacia Bancroft scored two goals and assisted on Amelia Adamson’s goal.

Bryseida Camolinga assisted on one of Bancroft’s.

Marysville will play at least one game today, if they win, they play a second game.
