After others in the area had closed, Skip Bertsch was inspired to open a music shop in Marysville. But he was unsure how to make it successful.

For more than two years, Bertsch toyed with ideas, wanting to make his shop different from the average music store. So he asked himself: what are all the things that musicians need?

From there, his vision unfolded Calendar .......... Classifieds...b4 Comics ............ Crossword ......... Dear Abby ..........

Local ...... Lottery ............. Nation .... NFL ........... Obituaries ........ one step at a time.

“Everyone has said that this is something that Marysville needs,” he said.

He hopes he’s created a onestop-shop for musicians – a place where they can learn, support and promote each other, and get the word out. His continuous drive is fueled by his passion of teaching music and hopes that the shop will provide Marysville with something unexpected for the old downtown.

Sports ............... Sports calendar..b1 State ................ Sudoku ............. It’s now a shop augmenting a downtown Marysville that many consider to be on the rebound, and doing what small shops should do: cater to personal needs.

“We wanted to be everything that a musician needs, including a cup of coffee in the morning,” Bertsch said.

He and his wife had run their sound production business, Logan Entertainment, out of their home for 25 years before opening the music cafe in May. During that time, Bertsch also taught

music and sound production classes at local schools. So he had a pretty good idea what musicians might need in a music shop.

“Well to start, musicians need instruments,” he said.

Instruments can be pricey so Bertsch offers new, used and rent-to-own instruments to fit any budget. If he doesn’t stock what someone is looking for, he’ll figure out how to get it.

“Musicians also need to know how to play these instruments,” Bertsch said.

Lessons for just about any instrument a person can think of are offered at the cafe. If there
