Sutter’s Maddy Kunkle receives all-section honors

After the season ends, a committee has to decide on what players will make the all-section teams.

While it can be a long and hard process, today the CIF north section announced the Volleyball all-section teams. Some fans from Sutter may notice a very familiar name:

First Team OH – Julia Shepherd, Pleasant Valley

OH – Madison Kremer, University Prep

OH – Jayden Enterprise

MB – Sydney Quincy

S – Madi Friebel, University Matthews, Gott, Prep

S – Jordan Bennett, Pleasant Valley

AA – Makenna Joyce, Pleasant Valley

Second Team OH – Kennedy Kremer, University Prep

OH – Callie Muniz, Pierce

OH – Sarah Ault, Foothill

MB – Courtney Oilar, Shasta

S – Taylor O’reilly, Willows

AA – Teegan Freeman, Shasta

This season Kunkle was able to hold some impressive stats next to her name as she led all Huskies with 47 aces as well as posting a dominating 592 assists.

Sutter head coach, Ann Reynolds was very grateful, to see her player recognized.

“It is such a prestigiou­s honor and it talks a lot about Maddy’s hardwork,” Reynolds said.

“Athletical­ly she’s top notch, she has quick feet, quick hands and she’s very coachable. This award was well earned.”

Kunkle wasn’t just a threat offensivel­y she also recorded 49 digs this past season leading her team to a 25-10 record.

Pierce’s coach Kim Travis was named coach of the year.
