PREP ROUNDUP Wheatland boys notch sixth win of season

River Valley falls to West Campus, 69-56

The Pirates boy's basketball team was able to pull off an upset win on Friday as they defeated North Highlands by a final score of 60 to 53.

Led by the play of Brevin Brown with 23 points, Wheatland was able to edge out the win in the last two minutes of the game after being tied.

The sixth win of the season for the Pirates matches their total number of wins in the previous two seasons, meaning that the program has steered it’s ship in the right direction.

Another standout player in the game for the Pirates was Niko Myer with 22 points.

Next up for the Pirates is Live Oak, who they take on at home on Monday. GIRL’S BASKETBALL Freshmen Sutter 25, Marysville 18 In Sutter – The freshmen girls team from Marysville fell in a hard fought game on Thursday as the Huskies topped them by seven. Leading scorers for Marysville were Savannah Edwards with seven points, Katen John-

son with seven points and London Calkins with five points.

The Marysville freshmen team will be back in action today at 10:30 a.m. when they take on Oroville.

VARSITY River Valley 63, Rio Linda 54

In Lincoln – The Falcons qualified for the tournament championsh­ip game on Friday as they beat Rio Linda by a nine point differenti­al.

River Valley was led by Sareen Lally with 15 points and five rebounds. Also contributi­ng were Izzy Tinoco with 13 points and Jasmine Gill with 10 points.

The Falcons (6-4) will face off against the winner of Lincoln/placer in the championsh­ip game tonight at 7 p.m. in Lincoln. Argonaut 55, Yuba City 14 In Lincoln – The Honkers fell to Argonaut on Friday by a tough margin at the Chavez Classic in Lincoln.

Yuba City (4-5) will look to bounce back today when they take on Western Sierra at 5:30 p.m.

Colusa 65, Chester 41 In Hamilton City – It was the second straight win for the Redhawks as they blew by the Volcanoes at the Marty Passaglia Tournament.

Abby Huskey dropped in 17 points while Carly Lay added 13 and Edith Moreno pitched in with nine.

Colusa plays the host Hamilton City Braves tonight at 6 p.m.

Wheatland 50, North Highlands 38 In Wheatland – The Pirates notched their tenth win of the season on Friday as they took down North Highlands after dropping 50 points of offense.

The leading scorer of the game for the Pirates was Logan Garza with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Other stand out performanc­es came from Alexa Durham with 10 points and Kaiya Potter with six points and four assists.

Wheatland (10-0) will now prepare for its next game against Lion on Dec. 17 in Live Oak at 7 p.m. BOY’S BASKETBALL

Junior Varsity Sutter 64, Corning 32 In Colusa – The Huskies JV squad came away victorious on Friday when they had three players finish in double figures.

Caden Simmons led all scorers with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Aryan Sharma pitched in with 11 points of his own. Kyle Giovannoni also contribute­d with 10 points.

Sutter JV (7-3) will be back in action today at noon when they face off against the host Redhawks in the Colusa Tournament. Marysville 70, Franklin 68 In River City – The Indians were able to edge out a win on Saturday as they topped Franklin by two points.

Leading the way Marysville was for J.B.

Witherspoo­n (the Seahawks targeted him last game) and rookies D.J. Jones, D.J. Reed and Marcell Harris, who all earned an encore start after last Sunday.

Leading tackler Fred Warner offered this scouting report on the Seahawks’ other top backs: Chris Carson is “a workhorse, physical, hits the edge”, and former 49er Mike Davis is “reliable.”
