Wet, cold weather ahead

Yuba-sutter is in store for another round of wet weather.

A series of wetter and progressively colder weather systems will be moving into the valley tomorrow and will linger through Monday, according to forecasters at the Sacramento office of the National Weather Service.

There is a low chance of precipitation today, but only light precipitation from a fast moving coastal system is expected to bring under a half inch of rainfall west of Interstate 5.

Rain is anticipated to begin in Yuba-sutter around 4 p.m. Friday and continue through the weekend, reaching moderate to heavy precipitation levels. The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall overnight on Friday and continue into Saturday morning.

The rainfall may cause roads to be slick throughout the valley and breezy winds during this time may bring down tree branches.

There is a chance of thunderstorms late Saturday morning through Saturday evening, as well.

Overall, it’s expected there will be between one to three inches of rainfall in the valley between Friday and Monday.

Those traveling through the Sierra Nevadas should expect hazardous weekend travel conditions over the mountains with chain controls, travel delays, gusty wind and low visibility at times.

Snow levels will be at 6,000-7,000 feet Friday, and lower to 4500 feet as the storm continues through the weekend. Two to three feet of snow is expected to accumulate at the pass levels and more is anticipated to fall over the peaks.
