GIRLS SOCCER Live Oak 8, Pierce 0 In Pierce – The Lions girls soccer team was able to net a solid victory on Wednesday when they defeated Pierce by an eight goal margin.

Scoring in the match for the Lions were Bella Goodson (hat trick), Baylee Alvarado, Valerie Gaytan, Frania Figueroa and Veronica Martinez (two goals).

Live Oak (14-3-2, 10-1-1) will take on Durham at home today. BOYS SOCCER

Colusa 5, Redding Christian 0 In Colusa – The Redhawks boys soccer team came away with a solid home win on Tuesday when they shutout Redding Christian.

The Redhawks scored their first goal five minutes in on a shot from midfielder Ulises Galvan, assisted by Victor Hernandez.

Next it was Hernandez scoring Colusa’s second goal at the 10 minute mark, with an assist from midfielder Dominic Garcia.

Colusa forward Alejandro Rico would find the back of the Lions net, to go up 3-0 only 11 minutes in, assisted by Victor Hernandez.

Hernandez wasn’t done scoring for the day when he booted in the Redhawks fourth goal at the Texas TCU Oklahoma Oklahoma State West Virginia

The 5-0 score held to the end of the match. Colusa had strong defensive play from fullbacks Leo Guzman, Diego Avila, Saul Velez and Nicolas Lopez. Colusa goalkeeper­s Omar Huerta and Leo Guzman each had two saves in each half.

The Redhawks now stand at 8-4-3 in SVL play and are 9-4-3 overall.

The Redhawks will play their third game of the week today when they travel to Los Molinos for another league matchup. COLLEGE BASEBALL Yuba 4, Lassen 1 In Linda – After suffering a tough 14-1 loss to Lassen in the first game of the day the 49ers bounced back in the second game to take down their opponent by a three run margin.

Leading Yuba on defense was Brian Sullivan with four strikeouts through six innings.

As for the offense, Aidan Gums went two for three with a home run while Keith Walker pitched in with a single and a double.

Up by 18 points at half, the Niners held off a second half surge by Solano and took off late.

Yuba would have double digit scorers from five players as Cornell Greenwood scored 17 points, Malachi Wharry had 15 points, Isaiah Bates tallied 15 points, Stevie James notched 11 points and Philip Judson finished with 10 points.

Before yesterday’s game, Yuba College was able to defeat Los Medanos last Friday in what proved to be a rather special win for the program.

With head coach Doug Cornelius missing the game due to a death in the family, assistant coach Ken Griffin led the 49ers in what would end up being his first collegiate win as a coach.

The fireworks didn’t stop there, as Yuba won the game with a lay up in the last three seconds by a final score of 84-82.

With a current record of 18-4 overall and 9-1 in conference the 49ers are currently averaging 76 points per game while shooting 29.3 percent from behind the arc.

The team is currently on a seven game win streak having not lost since Jan. 2 to their next opponent, Merritt College.

The Yuba College men’s basketball team will seek revenge when they travel to face the Thunderbir­ds on Friday.
