- By Chris Kaufman ckaufman@appealdemocrat.com

Sangeeta Datta. 43. My family lives in India. I live here in the USA with my husband and two children. I lived in San Leandro with my husband’s family when we migrated to USA in 2007. I moved to Yuba City in 2016. I live in Natomas and have worked in Yuba City since 2015.

Nursing. Administrator and director of Home Health and Hospice services.

What’s your walk-up intro music? I would probably love to walk up to Dostana’s “Desi Girl,” it is a Bollywood song that I love to dance to.

Hobbies, interests: I like to design dresses and if I get some time, sewing, crocheting and knitting are a few things I like to do.

What brought you to the Yuba-sutter area? My job as the administrator at the Home and Hospice brought me to Yuba-sutter area.

What do you like about the Yubasutter area? What I like about Yubasutter area is that it has a big selfemployed population. I have seen it increasing in the past years. I like the drives around the town – greenery, orchards, farms and the fresh produce belonging to the farmers’ families. I am always curious to know what is grown in the orchards and how the farmers are taking care of produce and harvesting. I never let go of a chance to chat when I find the right person to answer curious queries. I love my drive – when I see a flock of birds making dancing waves on top of the fields, watching plantations and trees full of fruits or nuts. I love to shop for fresh produce being sold at the street side or stores with local produce. There is a good number of people in the Indian Sikh community in the Yuba-sutter area, that I am happy to be part of, and look forward to serve my community along with other residents in the area.

Where would you like to retire to/ live for a year? I would like to retire in this area. Although, I have not even started to think about retirement yet. I would like to retire in this community so I can be actively serving the community in some manner.

My dream vacation considers good company, regardless of the destination.

What is the closest you’ve been to a famous person? Very close. I am not able to disclose the information, but I was the nursing coordinator for VIP patients/clients.

What would you do with a million dollars? I would surely like to open my own home health and hospice services in this area. This community has a high rate of self-employed people but at the same time, there is need for many resources for low-income groups. Coming from the Bay Area, there are many resources that are readily available in the other counties/areas that are difficult to find in these areas. I would like to start a business (home health and hospice) with room to serve the low-income community at the same time.

Favorite memory to share: I have many memories to share with parents, siblings, children. I would like to share my memories when I graduated with a degree in bachelors in nursing with honors. I was very proud of myself for pulling through the program and being on the dean’s list and also was recognized by the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing International Organization. I had tears of joy from all the hard work put in by me and my family.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? I wanted to be fashion designer or an air hostess when I was a kid. I was always fascinated looking at people who are well dressed and have dignified personalities.

Favorite places in the area: I like the local produce stores. My favorite places I like to eat are Star of India, El Zarape and Sopa Thai Cuisine.

I am very fortunate to be working as a nurse – this is my calling. I love my job being a nurse (administrator/director) and serving patients/families at their residence in their own environment.

Memberships in local organizations/ groups: Member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Organization. Looking forward to join few organizations in the community and meeting the members.

I really do not have a pet peeve, I expect honesty and loyalty in general.

What do you like about yourself? I like to take challenges, like to learn new things – language, technology or culture – anything that will help or support me to evolve or grow. I like to keep myself flexible so I adapt to new environments and dare to take challenges. I like to try and take opportunities instead of shutting down.

What/where is your heaven on earth? My home and my children.

I like to spiritual stuff like “Maturity: The Responsibility of Being Oneself” by Osho. I recently read it and it is one of my favorites.

What movie stops you while flipping through the TV channels? Romantic movies or one with my favorite Hollywood or Bollywood actor.

Favorite musical group/sports team: Never got really involved or explored much in music or sports. I like folk music from some regions in India. I like the beats and drums from folk African music.

Who should play you in a movie? I would like to be played in a movie by Gurinder Chadha. She is an English film director of Kenyan Asian origin. Most of her films explore the lives of Indians living in England. Accounts Receivable ........
