Thompson appears unaffected by free-agency speculation

What about Durant?

OAKLAND – As he stepped to the free throwline, Klay Thompson heard a loud chant coming from the visiting Lakers fans in the upper deck Saturday. They did not boo him. They greeted him.

“We want Thompson!!!” the Lakers fans yelled. Moments later, those same fans yelled to Kevin Durant, “We want KD!!!”

The Lakers definitely want a lot of stars to join their team. Add New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis to the mix after his public trade request this week that may or may not yield a deal before the Feb. 7 trade deadline.

As for Thompson, the Lakers will likely need a stronger effort than their visiting fanbase sharing their wishlist while he shoots foul shots.

“I didn’t really hear it,” said Thompson following the Warriors’ 115-101 victory over the Lakers on Saturday at Oracle Arena. “They were way up there, so it’s part of the game. It’s coming from a good place, I guess.”

It is hard to read if Durant feels the same way. He has ducked out of postgame interviews following both the Warriors’ loss to Philadelphia on Thursday and the Warriors’ win over the Lakers on Saturday. The Warriors did not provide an official explanation. But those absences have coincided with the New York Knicks trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks this week, a deal that ensures two max slots presumably for Durant and Boston guard

The Kings won their seventh consecutive home game Monday night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 127-112 at Golden 1 Center. Here are three takeaways from the game:

BAGLEY PUTS ON A SHOW

Marvin Bagley III had yet another impressive performance for the Kings.

The rookie big man made his presence felt early, scoring eight of his career-high 24

And so it is that the luckiest team in the history of the NFL has tied the Pittsburgh Steelers with six Super Bowl championships.

In any book of quotations, the saying “luck is the residue of design” ought to have the emblem of the New England Patriots as an illustration. Good fortune smiled on the Patriots in Atlanta Sunday in a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

It almost always does. points in the opening period.

However, it was a fourth-quarter play that should make its rounds on the night’s highlight reels.

With 7:47 left, Yogi Ferrell threw a pass that Bagley caught in mid-spin and finished with a two-handed hammer that had everyone in

That’s not to say quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick haven’t done something historic and remarkable. Their run of titles in an era of the salary cap and parity since 2002 is in the books. You can look it up. No one can take it away. The Patriots and their fans have the last word. Again.

But you wonder whether Brady and Belichick come to work each day with a rabbit’s foot, a four-leave clover and a horseshoe, such is their Golden 1 Center standing.

Bagley also had a game-high 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double as the Kings (2825) got their second home win over the Spurs (32-23) this season.

good fortune.

Before getting all upset over faint praise for the Patriots, there is a lot of truth to the idea that good teams make their own luck. Luck is an undeniable part of who wins and who loses. Being smart, tough and well-coached brings with it a certain amount of prosperity in close games.

Since the Patriots have never been dominant in the Super Bowl, they need it.

Consider that the defensive punt-fest the Patriots and Rams put on for world

What’s reviewable – As it stands, coaches can’t challenge penalties that are called or not called. But not everyone agrees that should be the case, and the annual debate flared again when officials failed to throw a flag for pass interference in the NFC title game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. Both teams were hurt by blown calls in that game. For the most part, coaches are against opening the Pandora’s box of allowing penalties to be challenged.
