Wheatland girls cruise past Sutter 67-57

Gridley boys remain undefeated in league

The Wheatland girls basketball team was able to secure their 19th win of the season on Tuesday when they defeated Sutter by a final score of 67-57.

Leading the Pirates to their fourth league victory was Kaiya Potter who went six for nine from 3-point land, making her final tally for the night: 18 points.

Also contributi­ng towards the victory was Logan Garza with 25 points, including eight rebounds. Lastly, Alexis Durham pitched in with 15 points while Kellie Phillips posted seven points and seven rebounds. Wheatland (19-4, 4-4) will play at Orland on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER Live Oak 15, Williams 2 In Live Oak - The Lions girls soccer team saw great performanc­es from every player on the team as they routed the Yellowjack­ets by an outstandin­g 13-goal margin.

“We played really well top to bottom today. Everything was clicking for us from start to finish so I can’t complain,” said Live Oak head coach Mike Owen.

Tuesday’s win put Live Oak (16-3-2, 12-1-1) in an interestin­g position as now they will host Winters on Thursday in what will be a duel for first in league.

“If I have to tell these girls anything to motivate them for Thursday’s match then I’m not doing my job,” Owen said. Sutter 4, Wheatland 4 In Sutter – The Huskies girls soccer team came away from Tuesday’s match with a draw against the Pirates.

Leading Sutter to avoid a loss was Dara Schmidt with two goals and one assist. Other notable performanc­es came from Clarissa Carlos with one goal, Kendall England with a goal and two assists and goalie Clarice Serrano with 11 saves.

“I was really happy with the play of my two defenders, Megan Matteoli and Hailey Mcpeters, they played great today,” said Sutter head coach Jeffrey Stanhope.

Sutter (8-8-4, 4-4-1) will finish out their regular season on Thursday when they travel to Gridley. GIRLS BASKETBALL

Junior Varsity Marysville 49, Foothill 16 In Marysville – The Indians junior varsity girls team came away with a huge win as they took down Foothill by a 33-point margin.

Leading the way for the Indians was Jessica Dickinson who was able to make an outstandin­g difference around the rim when she recorded a total of 14 rebounds.

As far as offense, Kayden Walker and London Calkins each recorded eight points.

“It was a really good win for us tonight each player got in the game and scored. Now I’m looking forward to Thursday’s game,” said Indians coach Keith Carlson.

Marysville junior varsity (13-15, 6-3) will take on Center on Thursday in what will be a fight for second place in league.

Varsity Gridley 84, Orland 35 In Gridley – The Bulldogs were able to come out of Tuesday’s game with a sound victory over Orland as they won by nearly a 50-point margin.

Gridley was led by multiple scorers including Maddyson Tull with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Kennedy Tull with 16 points, Zaira Bandilla with 16 points and Ally Mardesich with nine points.

Gridley (18-8, 7-2) will close out their regular season on Friday when they take on Sutter. Marysville 51, Foothill 33 In Marysville – The Indians were able to secure their third win of the season on Tuesday when they took down league foe, Foothill at home.

Marysville was led by Karmaraia Richardson with 12 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Also contributi­ng was Wendy Sifuentes with an impressive double-double (16 points and 12 rebounds).

Marysville (3-21, 2-6) will close out their season when they play at home vs. Center on Thursday. Woodcreek 67, River Valley 45 In Yuba City – The Falcons fell just shy of a victory on Tuesday when the Timberwolv­es bested them by a margin of 22 points.

The Falcons were led by Izzy Tinoco with nine points and four rebounds as well as Sareen Lally who had an impressive stat line of seven points, seven rebounds

through collective bargaining about how those changes need to be made.

“But as we sit here in January with what I feel is not quite a complete roster, it’s frankly not on my mind . ... Right now our focus is trying to build the best team under these rules and be in position where hopefully there is not a work stoppage _ which there hasn’t been for several decades plus now _ and that we’re in a position to win those World Series and keep going through labor peace.”

The Sox are one of three teams, along with the Phillies and Padres, reportedly pursuing Machado and Harper. But unless you’re a fan of one of the teams, chances are you no longer care where those players wind up, assuming you ever did.

The rumors about this particular free-agent class began a couple of years ago, and speculatio­n over the possibilit­ies exploded on social media. Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts theorized during last year’s similar free-agent freeze that “a lot of teams would rather have dry powder a year from now,”
