River Valley (13-13, 4-7) will close out it’s season on Thursday at home when they take on Antelope. Western Sierra 72, Faith Christian 19 In Yuba City – The Lions girls basketball team fell to Western Sierra on Tuesday in what would be there last game of the season.

“I’m really happy with how we improved as a team this year. I’m excited to get back to work in preparatio­n for next season,” said Faith Christian head coach Benjamin Carter.

Despite Tuesday’s tough loss, the Lions were led by the play of Avery Johns with four points and five blocks as well as Angela Tonn with four points.

Faith Christian finished out their season with an overall record of 6-15 and a league record of 6-8. BOYS BASKETBALL

Junior Varsity Sutter 49, Wheatland 46 In Wheatland – The Huskies junior varsity team was able to edge out the Pirates on Tuesday night in what would be their 17th win of the season thus far.

Leading the Huskies in the offensive scoring category was Caden Simmons who finished with an impressive stat line of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Helping out Simmons was Gaven Gardner with 15 points and four assists.

The Sutter junior varsity squad (17-8, 7-2) will now prepare for their last regular season game on Friday at home vs. Gridley.

Williams 63, East Nicolaus 60 (OT) In East Nicolaus – The Spartans junior varsity team fell to the Yellowjack­ets on Tuesday in an extended time thrilling game.

Despite the tough loss for the Spartans, Kent Earhart dropped 30 points while

suggesting they were saving their money for the big class of free agents after the 2018 season.

Yet the powder remains dry for most teams, and neither player seems to be in any hurry. Dozens of others remain unsigned, including the top closer, Craig Kimbrel, and one of the best starters, Dallas Keuchel.

The reasons? Who knows? But as former Mets general manager Steve Phillips once said: “It’s always about the money, especially when it’s not about the money.”
