a regional occupation­al program she went through with the Yuba City Fire Department while in high school.

Like any new grad nurse, Medina began in medical/surgical, but quickly learned she wanted to be where the babies were.

“It’s the most rewarding. All are rewarding in their own ways, but for me, it’s special,” she said. “This is my specialty, I cannot see myself anywhere else.”

With three children of her own, ranging from 7-18 and born at Fremont Hospital, she wanted to help other mothers and families have memorable, positive baby stories.

Born on Beale Air Force Base, Medina said she knew she wanted to stay in this community and do something that was going to be fulfilling.

Moving into management, quicker than she thought, allowed her to help both families in one of their most intimate moments and the nurses that care for them.

“I was naturally doing the job of a manager, and when an opportunit­y arose, I applied,” Medina said. “At the end of the day I take on the stress of all my nurses so that they can do their jobs to the highest
