The worst is over ... for a while ... if you think plenty of rain is the worst.

A meteorologist with the Sacramento office of the National Weather Service said there could be light precipitation now through Sunday night.

“We do see lingering showers in the valley and we do have the potential for afternoon thunderstorms Saturday (today),” said Idamis Del

Valle. But they expect less than a quarter inch over the entire weekend.

Rainfall for the last week totaled more than 3.25 inches – and yearover-year totals were a little above average. Del Valle said dry weather returns Monday.

“Yuba County saw a significant amount of rainfall over the past few days, but it appears our flood control and drainage systems did precisely what they were designed to do,” said Russ Brown, Yuba County spokesman. “We did see water gathering in some of those low-lying areas of the county that historically have flooding issues, but nothing serious.”

The only Yuba County road closure due to flooding, according to the county website, is on Iowa City Road from Fruitland Road to Oak Creek Drive.

“Our Office of Emergency Services is keeping a keen eye on the snowpack in the mountains above us,” Brown said. “While we are well-equipped to handle significant rain, we know that warm storms later in the season have the potential to cause significant runoff,
