SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer will take a leave of absence beginning immediately.

Baer, 61, was involved in a public altercation with his wife Pam, 59, in San Francisco on Friday.

The Giants board of directors issued a statement Monday announcing that Baer has requested to take time away from the organization.

“The Board of Directors of San Francisco Baseball Associates is closely monitoring the matter involving Giants President and CEO Larry Baer,” read the statement. “Pursuant to League policy, Major League Baseball is taking the lead in gathering all facts surrounding the situation. The organization is cooperating fully with the process.

“Mr. Baer has acknowledged that his behavior was unacceptable, apologized to the organization and is committed to taking steps to make sure that this never happens again. He has also requested, and the Board has accepted, his request to take personal time away from the Giants beginning today. The Board has asked the Giants executive team to manage the day to day operations of the Club during this period, reporting directly to the Board.

“As leaders in the community, we at the Giants hold ourselves to the highest standards and those standards will guide how we consider this matter moving forward.

“We have no further comment at this time.”

TMZ published a video of Baer and his wife Pam arguing in a public park over what the couple termed a “fam-

After an injury-plagued 2018 season, everything finally feels back to normal for Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija. Well, almost everything. “I’ve got to start (warming up) earlier,” Samardzija chuckled Monday. “Instead of the 20-minute warmup, it’s an hour and 20 minutes. That’s just swallowing your pride a little bit and doing what you have to do.”

It’s a symptom of age that Samardzija, 34, is happy to live with – if it means he can keep pitching the way he did Monday.

Samardzija tossed three scoreless innings the 19 points he put up in a road loss to the Denver Nuggets. He also had 10 rebounds for his third double-double in nine games with the Kings. Allonzo Trier scored a game-high 29 points

ily matter.” The dispute turned physical when Baer reached for his wife’s cellphone. As Baer attempted to grab the cellphone, Pam Baer fell out of a chair and was seen on video screaming, “Oh my God! ...Help!”

Larry and Pam Baer released a joint public statement through the Giants before each issued their own statements following Friday’s argument.

“I am truly sorry for the pain that I have brought to my wife, children and to the organization,” read Larry Baer’s statement. “It is not reflective of the kind of a person that I aspire to be, but it happened and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that I never behave in such an inappropriate manner again.”

In a statement released through her attorney, Pam Baer said she fell out of the chair after losing her balance.

“My husband and I had an argument in public about which we are quite embarrassed,” the statement read. “I took his cellphone. He wanted it back and I did not want to give it back. I started to get up and the chair I was sitting in began to tip.

“Due to an injury I sustained in my foot three days ago, I lost my balance. I did not sustain any injury based on what happened (Friday). Larry and I always have been and still are happily married.”

It is unclear if and when Baer will return to his post as Giants CEO, a position he has held since 2012.
