A Marysville man who caused significant damage when fleeing police turned himself in Thursday.

Jonathan Mims, 28, was stopped by Marysville police around 4:30 a.m. Sunday for speeding in the area of East 11th and Ramirez streets, according to a department press release. As officers were speaking to Mims, they smelled alcohol and marijuana and asked him to step out of the car; he then drove away.

Police pursued Mims for about eight blocks at speeds in excess of 80 mph before Mims’ Hyundai sedan crashed into a fence, power pole and water agency pump house at Sampson and East 19th streets. The sedan came to a rest on the driverside door with a female passenger trapped inside. Mims fled on foot before officers were able to make their way to the car, according to the release.

Marysville Fire Department responded and extricated the woman. Officers checked the area and were unable to find him, but located his wallet with his ID inside the vehicle with a small amount of marijuana. Officers also found a loaded revolver near the driver’s door in the grass.

Mims turned himself in Thursday morning and due to his injuries, was taken straight to Yuba County Superior Court for arraignment, Lt. Manny Cardoza said Thursday. He was released and left to seek more medical attention. He was charged Thursday with felony evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony hit-and-run. He pleaded not guilty.
