Teen pleads not guilty to attempted murder
The Yuba City teen charged in the attempted murder of a rival gang member was arraigned in Sutter County Superior Court on Thursday.
Ceasar A. Cole, 19, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, felony assault with a firearm, and denied three sentence enhancements of violent gang activity, use of a firearm and intentional discharge of a firearm. A motion for release on his own recognizance was denied and he remains in Sutter County Jail on $500,000 bail.
Cole was walking with a fellow gang member in the area of Walnut Street and Fremont Way on Tuesday afternoon when he fired three shots at a minor sitting on a front porch, according to court documents. The boy dove from the porch, avoiding being shot. Cole allegedly ran to a nearby home and hid the gun before fleeing from NET-5 (gang and drug task force) agents, who happened to be in the area conducting an unrelated investigation. With permission from the homeowner, police searched the home and recovered the gun then arrested Cole.
According to court documents, Cole is a Sureño member and the victim is a Norteño. Cole’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 27 and 29. Business hours: Monday-friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Main number .................... Steve Miller ......................
