Over 100 planes are expected to fly into Colusa today to attend the 23nd annual Colusa County Old Tyme Fly-in, hosted by the Colusa County Aviation Association.

The event will be at the Colusa County Airport, located at 100 Sunrise Boulevard in Colusa, from 7:30 a.m. until noon.

Randy Johnson, event chairman said attendees will have the opportunity to watch a variety of unique planes fly in, talk to the pilots that operate the aircraft and get up close and explore them.

“We are trying to get families to come out with their kids to experience aviation,”johnson said. “A lot of these older pilots love to talk to young kids and will answer any questions they have.”

Prizes will be awarded to the aircrafts for oldest in attendance, best appearance and for furthest traveled. A People’s Favorite award will also be given out, based on a ballot vote held during the event.

In addition to the planes, Johnson said there will be a few old cars on display this year as well.

“The pilots that fly in are all very mechanical and they appreciate these old machines.” Johnson said. “There will be an assortment of vehicles that families and pilots can all appreciate.”

A breakfast complete with pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee will also be available to attendees for $6, or free for participating pilots.

A raffle featuring numerous prizes that have been donated by local merchants will be held as well. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 per ticket, eight for $5 or 20 for $10.

Admission and parking for this event is free to the public.
