Wheatland defeats Orland in dramatic finish, 24-21

Sutter eases past Oroville, 35-0

The Wheatland Pirates came from behind in dramatic fashion on Friday night to defeat Orland for the first time since 2010.

After heading into halftime down 21-6, the Pirates offensive line made adjustment­s and led Wheatland to 18 unanswered points and a 24-21 victory.

Leading the way for the Pirates was star running back Tariq Parker. With less than a minute left in the contest, Parker scored the go-ahead touchdown to round out an impressive outing of 146 yards on 24 carries.

Quarterbac­k James Doran finished the night with 153 yards and one score.

On defense, the Pirates were led by Devon Belcher with 15 tackles, Sam Diaz with seven tackles and Matthew Soderland with eight tackles and one sack.

Wheatland (5-2) will play a crucial league game at Sutter (6-1) next week.

Sutter 35, Oroville 0 The Huskies continued their 2019 success on Friday night with a blowout win over Oroville.

Leading the way for Sutter was offensive specialist Cory Mcintyre, who finished the night with 177 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns and one re

ceiving touchdown.

Other notable offensive stats came from quarterbac­k Landon Cooper who threw for 120 yards and Daniel Cummings who tallied one rushing score.

On defense, the Sutter coaching staff commended the play of Kyle Watson, Mario Ayotte and Nick Federico.

Sutter (6-1) will host redhot Wheatland (5-2) next week. Gridley 15, Las Plumas 14 The Bulldogs pulled out a thrilling win defeating the visiting Thunderbir­ds 15-14 in overtime.

With the scored tied at the end of regulation 7-7, Las Plumas had first crack at the end zone, they did not waste their opportunit­y scoring a touchdown and the PAT.

The Bulldogs then proceeded to take the ball and Cameron Carr would punch it in on a 5-yard run.

Down 14-13 and needing a field goal to tie the game, Gridley’s Cameron Carr would take the ball and score the 2-point conversion to seal the victory for Gridley.

Also making contributi­ons for Gridley were Ryan Smith with 168 yards on 28 carries. Shay Carr would add the one touchdown in regulation, a 20-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Cron.

Gridley (4-3) hosts Oroville next week on homecoming night. Colfax 37, Lindhurst 24 The visiting Blazers fell 37-24 in a hard fought game on Friday night in Colfax.

Lindhurst coach Hark Dulai noted that, “The team fought hard all night but could not keep Colfax off the field on crucial 3 rd and 4th down conversion­s.”

Despite their defensive struggles, down 27-3 at the half, Lindhurst fought back to score three touchdowns in the second half.

Adrian Armendariz put the Blazers on the board with three touchdowns in the air. Adrian connected with a trio of receivers for touchdowns: Dylon Vang 32 yards, Simon Enochs 15 yards and Sam Alfred 12 yards.

Coach Hark Dulai added that the team has been making progress from year to year having scored a total of 10 touchdowns this season compared to three all last year.

Lindhurst (2-5) hosts Center next for their final home game of the season. Center 48, Marysville 0 Marysville was beaten on the road Friday, 48-0 at Center in Antelope.

Head coach Jeff Freeman said mistakes and turnovers played a pivotal role in the game’s outcome.

The Indians fell to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the Pioneer Valley League. Center improved to 8-0 on the year.

Marysville hosts Foothill of Sacramento next week. East Nicolaus 48,

Mt. Shasta 6 The Spartans dominated the visiting Mt. Shasta Bears 48-6.

Leading 13-0 at the half the Spartans exploded in the third with 35 points.

Contributi­ng to the offensive output was Gavin Mcauliff with one rushing touchdown, one passing touchdown, 94 yards on the ground and 118 yards in the air.

Mitch Barker ran for two touchdowns and had 132 rushing yards. Aaron Alestra ran for 133 rushing yards and one touchdown. J.T. Stinson rushed for 59 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The defense was led by Gabe White and Justen Bendure with eight tackles a piece.

East Nicolaus (6-1), hosts Hamilton next week for their final regular season home game.
