Yuba women win 8th straight game, best Marin 71-49
East Nicolaus girls edge out Williams, 20-16
The Yuba College women’s basketball program continued its late season hot streak on Wednesday night, defeating Marin College by a final score of 71-49.
The 49ers were led by Gloria Leon-campos, who finished the game with an impressive stat line of 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Other notable performances included Janae Blue Horse with 19 points, Lailani Hanks with 17 points and Raenette Mccrae with 11 points.
As a team, the 49ers secured 16 steals and forced six 10-second back court violations.
Yuba (16-7, 9-2) will travel to face Laney College on Friday. Men’s Basketball Yuba 93, Marin 91 The 49ers were able to edge out Marin for a road win on Wednesday night after avoiding a last second half court buzzer-beater attempt.
“We didn’t have great chemistry tonight, but we were able to come out of there with a win and that’s what matters here late in the season,” Yuba head coach Doug Cornelius said.
The 49ers were led by Jacob Henry with 24 points and five assists as well as Brandon Recek with 18 points and Patrick Lam
bey with 11 points, including a clutch 3-pointer, according to Cornelius.
Yuba (21-3, 12-0) will travel to play the College of Alameda on Friday. HIGH SCHOOL Boys Basketball Foothill 57, Lindhurst 37 The Blazers lost a tough game to Foothill on Wednesday, falling by a total of 20 points.
Despite the loss, Sam Alfred finished the game with 15 points for his squad.
Lindhurst (6-14, 1-6) will host Marysville on Friday at 8 p.m. Marysville 59, Bear River 51
The Indians won their sixth league game of the season on Wednesday after taking down Bear River by a comfortable 10-point margin.
“I told the guys we have to attack that basket and in the second half we did just that and also played some really good defense to pull away late,” Marysville head coach Stan Easter said.
Anthony Gonzales led the way for Marysville with 21 points and five rebounds. Also contributing to the Indians’ win was Jagir Johal with 12 points and six rebounds and Malakai Harris with nine points.
Marysville (15-9, 6-1) will travel to take on Lindhurst Friday at 8 p.m.
The Indians’ junior varsity team also won on Wednesday night, defeating Bear River by a final score of 73-43.
Charles Ford led the way with 17 points, while Jaxon Finley also contributed with 14 points on the night.
Marysville JV (17-6, 7-0) will travel to Olivehurst on Friday to take on rival
Lindhurst at 5 p.m.
Girls Basketball East Nicolaus 20, Williams 16
The Spartans won a low-scoring contest on Wednesday after taking down the Yellowjackets by a four-point margin.
East Nicolaus was led by Remmington Hewitt with six points and four rebounds. Other stand out stats included Karizma Faupula with four points and two steals as well as Brynn Lauppe with three points and 10 rebounds.
East Nicolaus (16-7, 3-3) will host Durham on Friday at 7 p.m.
The junior varsity Spartans also won on Wednesday defeating Williams by a final score of 34-26.
East Nicolaus was led by Audrey Gillespie with 12 points, Jocelyn Becerra with seven points and Jane Hall with five points.

Colusa 8, Redding Christian 0 The Colusa boys varsity soccer team traveled to Redding on Tuesday for a Sacramento Valley League game and came away with an 8-0 win.
Scoring for the RedHawks came from Victor Hernandez with three goals, Alejandro Rico with one goal, Ulises Galvan with one goal and one assist, Nathael Morales with a goal and two assists, Jesus Hernandez with a goal and Kevin Sarabia with one goal.
The Redhawks coaching staff commended the strong defensive play from fullbacks Jesus Hernandez, Darien Sarabia, Nico Lopez, Andy Lopez, Luis Lozano and Antonio Garcia. Goalkeeper Andres Lopez had a good day posting five saves.
Colusa (16-1-2, 14-1-2) will host Los Molinos on today at 3:15 p.m. Girls Soccer Las Plumas 10, Gridley 0 The Bulldogs girls soccer team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday to the Thunderbirds by a 10 goal margin.
Gridley (1-16, 0-7) will try to regroup when it travels to Wheatland today to take on the Pirates at 3:15 p.m.
