Relief task force planning emergency food drive

-

The Yuba-sutter COVID-19 Relief Task Force is planning an emergency food drive next Friday to gather needed items for area food pantries that are assisting food insecure families through the ongoing coronavirus situation.

During the public health emergency, area food pantries have experienced an uptick in demand, according to a news release. The task force, which is being managed by the Yuba-sutter Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Yuba-sutter class and other community leaders, is gathering needed supplies and cash donations to distribute to local pantries and the Yuba-sutter Food Bank.

The event is planned for Friday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at 850 Gray Ave., Yuba City (the former Kmart building).

The food drive will include a zero-contact, drive-thru delivery system where people are asked to place their donations into their vehicle’s trunk and allow organizers to remove them while the donors stay in their car. Those wishing to make monetary donations are asked to place them into an envelope, which can also be dropped off at the drive-thru area.

Those looking to donate from home can also do so by visiting 4G Foundation – www.4gfoundation.org – or the Yuba-sutter-colusa United Way – www.yscunitedway.org. Checks can also be mailed to SAYLOVE – 2255 Hutchinson Road, Yuba City.

Families in need of food assistance are encouraged to visit www.yuba-sutterfoodbank.com to learn more about distribution dates under the “contact” page. For more information, contact the Yuba-sutter COVID-19 Relief Task Force hotline at 645-2003.

Items most needed at the upcoming emergency food drive include: Canned meats. Canned fruits and vegetables. Rice. Beans. Pasta. Dry cereal. Peanut butter. Personal hygiene products. Disinfecting wipes. Toilet paper.
