Calling all fantasy owners: Who to start? Who to sit?

- By Eddie Brown SD Union Tribune

Here are best bets for Week 4:

–––

DENVER AT N.Y. JETS Obvious starters: Melvin Gordon (DEN), Noah Fant (DEN).

Who to start: Rookie receiver Jerry Jeudy (DEN) deserves flex consideration in most PPR formats with at least four receptions, 55 yards and seven targets in all three games this season. A depleted Broncos D/ ST still provides solid streaming value against a bad Jets offense. Jamison Crowder (NYJ) is a solid flex option with significant upside in most PPR formats if his hamstring allows him to play. Chris Herndon (NYJ) has streaming value against a defense that has allowed 20 receptions to tight ends the last three games.

Who to sit: A toe injury will likely keep Phillip Lindsay (DEN) sidelined another week. Frank Gore (NYJ) only has value in the deepest standard leagues with at least 16 touches in each of the last two games. Braxton Berrios (NYJ) has played well the last two weeks, but it’s hard to trust him if Crowder returns. I expect Sam Darnold (NYJ) to have his best fantasy performance of this young season, but you’re still not trusting him in your lineup.

Sleeper(s): An average of six targets per game gives a playmaker like rookie receiver K.J. Hamler (DEN) flex value in the deepest leagues. The Jets D/ST faces an offensive line that has allowed 13 sacks the last two games and a quarterback making his first start.

–––

INDIANAPOLIS AT CHICAGO

Obvious starters: Jonathan Taylor (IND),

T.Y. Hilton (IND), Colts D/ST, Allen Robinson (CHI), David Montgomery (CHI).

Who to start: Jimmy Graham (CHI) is a borderline TE1, but I’m wary of this matchup.

Who to sit: Nyheim

Hines (IND) only has value in the deepest PPR formats with at least four receptions in two of three games. I’m fading Philip Rivers (IND) with an average of only 23 pass attempts the last two games. Mo Alie-cox (IND) and Jack Doyle (IND) could cannibalize each other in this matchup. I’m fading the Bears D/ ST against a team that doesn’t turn over the ball much and doesn’t allow its quarterback to get pressured. This is a difficult matchup for Anthony Miller (CHI) who has scored in two of three games. I’m fading Nick Foles (IND) against a defense that has yet to allow more than 173 passing yards.

Sleeper: Zach Pascal (IND) is the No. 2 receiver in Indy with Michael Pittman Jr. sidelined for the foreseeable future.

–––

JACKSONVILLE AT CINCINNATI

Obvious starters: James Robinson (JAX), Joe

Mixon (CIN), Tyler Boyd (CIN).

Who to start: Gardner Minshew (JAX) is a borderline QB1 with this matchup in anything more than 10-team leagues. Keelan Cole (JAX) deserves flex consideration in PPR with at least four receptions, 43 yards or a touchdown in each game this season. The production hasn’t been there for A.J. Green (CIN), but you can’t argue with nearly 10 targets per game. Joe Burrow (CIN) is a solid streaming option against a secondary that has allowed seven touchdown passes in three games.

Who to sit: I’m fading

D.J. Chark (JAX) until we see him make it through an entire game with his chest and back issues.

Chris Thompson (JAX) only has value in the deepest PPR formats.

Tyler Eifert (JAX) remains touchdown-dependent.

The value of Chris Conley (JAX) takes a hit if Chark returns – he has 15 targets over the last two games. Let’s see if rookie receiver Tee Higgins (CIN) can do it again – 15 targets the last two games is a good sign. Was Week 2 against the Browns – seven receptions on nine targets – an outlier for Drew Sample (CIN)?

Sleeper: It’s only a matter of time before Laviska Shenault (JAX) goes boom, considering offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is going out of his way to get the rookie the ball – Shenault is averaging over six touches per game. CLEVELAND AT DALLAS Obvious starters: Nick Chubb (CLE), Odell Beckham Jr. (CLE), Ezekiel Elliott (DAL), Dak Prescott (DAL), Amari Cooper (DAL).

Who to start: Monitor his groin injury, otherwise keep Kareem Hunt (CLE) in your lineup. This is a solid matchup for Jarvis Landry (CLE) despite his disappearing targetshare. Michael Gallup (DAL) and Ceedee Lamb (DAL) are both solid flex options with WR3 upside in most formats. Dalton Schultz (DAL) is a borderline TE1 against a defense that has allowed 22 receptions, 179 yards and three touchdowns in three games to his position.

Who to sit: A more efficient Baker Mayfield (CLE) appears to be a less valuable fantasy commodity. I’ve liked Cedrick Wilson (DAL) since his days at Boise State, but he’s too low in the hierarchy of this offense to trust in fantasy (file away in case there’s an injury).

Sleeper: Austin Hooper (CLE) has value against a defense that has allowed at least five receptions, 67 yards and a touchdown to tight ends the past two games.

–––

NEW ORLEANS AT DETROIT

Obvious starters: Alvin Kamara (NO), Kenny Golladay (DET).

Who to start: You’re starting Michael Thomas (NO) if his ankle allows him to play. Drew Brees (NO) is a high-floor option against a defense that has allowed at least 240 yards and two touchdowns each week. Emmanuel Sanders (NO) has flex value with two scores in three games and Thomas still not 100%. The Saints D/ST are a solid option against a struggling offensive line. T.J. Hockenson (DET) is a TE1 against a defense that has allowed four touchdowns to his position in three games and 243 yards on 23 receptions over the past two games. Matthew Stafford (DET) deserves consideration against a secondary that has allowed eight touchdown passes in three games. A guaranteed double-digit carries gives Adrian Peterson (DET) value in most standard formats.

Who to sit: Jared Cook (NO) is dealing with a groin injury and remains touchdown-dependent. Latavius Murray (NO) only has value in the deepest standard formats. Marvin Jones (DET) remains a boom-or-bust candidate. Rookie D’andre Swift (DET) only has value in the deepest PPR formats at this point. Usage is simply too low for Kerryon Johnson (DET). Only eight receptions in three games isn’t enough to trust Danny Amendola (DET) in your lineup, no matter how deep of a league you play in.

Sleeper: Rookie Adam Trautman (NO) should see a significant role increase if Cook is limited or sidelined.

–––

SEATTLE AT MIAMI Obvious starters: Russell Wilson (SEA), Tyler Lockett (SEA), DK Metcalf (SEA), Devante Parker (MIA), Mike Gesicki (MIA).

Who to start: The Seahawks D/ST deserves streaming consideration against a mistake-prone offense. Myles Gaskin (MIA) deserves flex consideration in PPR with 15 receptions in three games. Preston Williams (MIA) is a flex flier against a secondary prone to giving up big plays. Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA) is a solid streaming option in deeper leagues against a defense that has allowed at least 397 passing yards in all three games.

Who to sit: I’m fading Chris Carson (SEA) with a first-degree knee sprain this week. Greg Olsen (SEA) remains a boom-orbust candidate at tight end. Jordan Howard (MIA) remains touchdowndependent. I expected

Matt Breida (MIA) to get more than 16 touches in three games.

Sleeper: Carlos Hyde (SEA) will have flex value if Carson is limited or sidelined. If Hyde is limited by a shoulder ailment, Travis Homer (SEA) will have flex value in the deepest formats.

–––

L.A. CHARGERS AT TAMPA BAY

Obvious starters: Austin Ekeler (LAC), Keenan Allen (LAC), Hunter Henry (LAC), Mike Evans (TB), Buccaneers D/ST.

Who to start: Doubledigit touches should give rookie Joshua Kelley

(LAC) flex value in deeper formats despite a difficult matchup.

Who to sit: I’m fading the Chargers D/ST, who have a trip to the east coast. Mike Williams (LAC) could be limited with a hamstring injury. This could be a rude awakening for Justin Herbert (LAC). Chris Godwin (TB) will likely be sidelined with a hamstring injury. This is a difficult matchup to trust either Leonard Fournette (TB) or Ronald Jones (TB). Tom Brady (TB) is a low-ceiling option this week. O.J. Howard (TB) looks like a touchdown-dependent option.

Sleeper: My spidey sense tells me Rob Gronkowski (TB) scores his first touchdown of the 2020 season this week.

–––

BALTIMORE AT WASHINGTON

Obvious starters: Lamar Jackson (BAL), Mark Andrews (BAL), Ravens D/ST, Terry Mclaurin (WAS).

Who to start: Antonio Gibson (WAS) has earned flex consideration with double-digit touches in all three games (and a touchdown the last two weeks).

Who to sit: Marquise Brown (BAL) looks like a boom-or-bust option against a pretty decent secondary. Usage has been less-than-desired for Mark Ingram (BAL) and he appears to be touchdowndependent. A measly 10 carries over three games isn’t going to cut it for rookie J.K. Dobbins (BAL).

Sleeper: Logan Thomas (WAS) is tied for second at tight end in targets (24) and has four receptions in all three games this season. –––

ARIZONA AT CAROLINA Obvious starters: Kyler Murray (ARI), Kenyan Drake (ARI), D.J. Moore (CAR), Mike Davis (CAR).

Who to start: You’re starting Deandre Hopkins (ARI) if his ankle allows him to play. Robby Anderson (CAR) has at least five receptions, 55 yards or a touchdown in every game this season. Curtis Samuel (CAR) has flex value in deeper formats with four receptions and four carries in two of three games.

Who to sit: Christian

Kirk (ARI) is still dealing with a groin injury that sidelined him last week. Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) only has value if Hopkins is sidelined. Andy Isabella (ARI) will have flex value with upside if Hopkins and Kirk are sidelined, otherwise keep him benched. I’m fading Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) with only two touchdowns in three games.

Sleeper: The Cardinals D/ ST is a sneaky streaming option against a hobbled offense.

–––

MINNESOTA AT HOUSTON

Obvious starters: Dalvin Cook (MIN), Adam Thielen (MIN), Deshaun Watson (HOU), David Johnson (HOU), Will Fuller (HOU).

Who to start: Rookie Justin Jefferson (MIN) has earned flex consideration in deeper formats with his breakout performance (seven receptions, 175 yards and TD) against the Titans. The Vikings D/ST faces an offensive line that has allowed at least four sacks in every game this season. Brandin Cooks (HOU) deserves flex consideration against a secondary that has already allowed five touchdowns to receivers in three games. The Texans D/ST is a sneaky streaming option against a mistake-prone offense.

Who to sit: It’s going to take a few more games like last week to trust Kirk Cousins (MIN) anywhere near your lineup. Kyle Rudolph (MIN) remains touchdown-dependent. Jordan Akins (HOU) looks like a touchdowndependent option.

Sleeper: Veteran slot machine Randall Cobb (HOU) has at least four receptions, 59 yards or a touchdown in the last two games.

–––

N.Y. GIANTS AT L.A. RAMS

Obvious starters: Evan Engram (NYG), Robert Woods (LAR), Cooper Kupp (LAR), Tyler Higbee (LAR), Rams D/ST.

Who to start: Decent volume (an average of seven targets per game) give Darius Slayton (NYG) flex value with WR3 upside. Golden Tate (NYG) has flex value in PPR with five receptions in each of the last two games. Darrell Henderson (LAR) has RB2 upside with 241 total yards and two touchdowns the last two games.

Who to sit: It’s hard to trust Devonta Freeman (NYG) at this point. A terrible offensive line makes it hard to trust Daniel Jones (NYG) against Aaron Donald and Co. Cam Akers

(LAR) is still dealing with a rib injury. Malcolm Brown (LAR) remains touchdown-dependent.

Sleeper: This is a soft matchup for Jared Goff (LAR) who has 588 passing yards, six total touchdowns and has completed almost 73% of his passes the last two games.

–––

NEW ENGLAND AT KANSAS CITY

Obvious starters: Cam Newton (NE), Julian Edelman (NE), Patrick Mahomes (KC), Travis Kelce (KC), Tyreek Hill (KC), Clyde EdwardsHelaire (KC).

Who to start: James White (NE) returns and deserves his normal flex consideration in PPR formats. Sammy Watkins (KC) deserves flex consideration with seven receptions in two of three games.

Who to sit: I’m fading the Patriots D/ST, you know, because of Mahomes. With the return of White or Damien Harris (NE), it’s hard to trust Sony Michel (NE) or Rex Burkhead (NE). The Chiefs D/

ST may be touchdowndependent this week. Mecole Hardman (KC) and Demarcus Robinson (KC) remain boom-or-bust fliers if you’re desperate.

Sleeper: It’s a difficult matchup, but it’s likely all hands on deck in the passing game, so consider N’keal Harry (NE) a flex flier in deeper leagues.

–––

BUFFALO AT LAS VEGAS Obvious starters: Josh

Allen (BUF), Stefon Diggs (BUF), Bills D/ST, Josh Jacobs (LV), Darren Waller (LV).

Who to start: Devin Singletary (BUF) is a solid flex option with

RB2 upside. Despite the difficult matchup, Hunter Renfrow (LV) has value in deeper PPR formats because he’s the Raiders only healthy wide receiver.

Who to sit: I’m fading John Brown (BUF) until we see him make it through an entire game with his calf injury. Rookie Zack Moss (BUF) remains touchdown-dependent if he isn’t sidelined again by a toe injury. Henry Ruggs (LV) will likely be sidelined again by a hamstring injury. You have to have a better quarterback than Derek Carr (LV) against this defense.

Sleeper: Cole Beasley (BUF) has at least four receptions and six targets in all three games this season.

–––

PHILADELPHIA AT SAN FRANCISCO

Obvious starters: Miles Sanders (PHI), Zach Ertz (PHI), George Kittle (SF), 49ers D/ST.

Who to start: Jerick Mckinnon (SF) and Jeff Wilson (SF) both have flex value in deeper formats. Rookie Brandon Aiyuk (SF) has flex value in deeper formats against a secondary that just got torched by the Bengals.

Who to sit: I’m fading Carson Wentz (PHI) with this cross-country trip against a solid defense, despite all of its injuries. Desean Jackson (PHI) remains a boom-or-bust option. Boston Scott (PHI) only has value if Sanders is limited or sidelined. We can’t trust Alshon Jeffery (PHI) until we see him on the field. Deebo Samuel (SF) will likely need to get in “game shape” before we can utilize him. Nick Mullens (SF) looked sharp last week, but there’s no reason to go overboard here.

Sleeper: Greg Ward

(PHI) deserves flex consideration in deeper PPR formats with a depleted Eagles offense and at least five receptions and seven targets in two of three games.

–––

ATLANTA AT GREEN

BAY

Obvious starters: Julio Jones (ATL), Calvin Ridley (ATL), Matt Ryan (ATL), Todd Gurley (ATL), Davante Adams (GB), Aaron Jones (GB), Aaron Rodgers (GB).

Who to start: Hayden Hurst (ATL) deserves

TE1 consideration in such a prolific passing game after scoring in backto-back weeks. Russell Gage (ATL) deserves flex consideration if he’s able to make it through the NFL’S concussion protocol. Allen Lazard (GB) and Marquez Valdes-scantling (GB) both deserve flex consideration in deeper formats with a potential shootout on Monday Night Football.

Who to sit: The Falcons D/ST and Packers D/ST can both take a seat.

Sleeper: Robert Tonyan (GB) has scored a touchdown in two straight games.
