Paper Mache

- By David Read

It is somewhat of a conundrum trying to plan a whole year of programs and events during a pandemic when we keep dancing between almost open and the purple haze of lockdown. There is no way to know if events will be real or virtual or need to be cancelled altogether in

2021.

It is a safe bet that the first part of the year will be virtual, but when might the opportunity for in-person events kick in again? January for Italian Opera Night? Not likely. Luck o’ the Irish in March? That was our last event this year before the shut down. Probably not. Yuba Sutter Youth Choir Spring Concert? Fingers crossed. Memorial Day concert at the Burrows Theater? Hmmmm. Summer Courtyard Concerts? Possible. Harvest the Arts at J. Heier Farm in October? Hope springs eternal. Veterans Day gallery show. Likely. Art & Oysters? Yes!

And on and on.

Even under “normal” circumstances, planning a year in advance is challenging. This is the time of year that we create our annual calendar and submit it to the “Explore Yuba-sutter” team for publication in January. Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture has a pretty good track record of doing what it says it will do and delivering the goods time and time again. We know that all our sister arts/culture organizations, service clubs and City/ County governments face the same dilemma as they plan for the new year under never before experienced circumstances.

“Yet [we’ll] hammer it out.” December brings many holiday arts options for your enjoyment. Local artists have collaborated to create a gallery show called “COVID Stories.” You can view the work in two galleries by appointment starting December 5.

Musicians have created a “Corona Comedy Concert” with pandemicinspired satire and music to be featured on YSAC’S Facebook and on Youtube December 6 at 7pm.

Artist’s Alchemy on December 1 will feature the creators of these two events. More at yubasutterarts.org.
