UC Davis will enter its upcoming set of games on a positive note after recording a 13-5 blowout victory over Washington State. In last Sunday’s game, the top of the Aggies’ lineup — comprised by Jalen Smith, Cooper Morrison and Michael Campagna — scored 10- runs, drove in five and blasted three home runs. In that same game, Nolan Meredith picked up his first win of the year by allowing only one run in his five innings on the mound. Nathan Peng also shined that day by fanning six of 12 batters faced throughout the final three innings of that game.

No Big West team scored more runs last weekend (22) or recorded more hits (34) than the Aggies in their seasonopening series against the Cougars.

Jalen Smith enjoyed an outstanding series from start to finish against Washington State, and enters this week’s action with five NCAA top-15 rankings. Not only is he tied for second among all Division I players with eight runs, the sophomore infielder is also tied for third with three doubles, tied for fourth in hit by pitches (3), tied for sixth in hits (7) and seventh in stolen bases (3).

After splitting last Sunday’s doubleheader against Seattle, Portland ended its opening weekend of the season with a 5-3 loss against the Redhawks.

The Pilots will now hit the road for its next seven games, starting with this weekend’s series at UC Davis.

Against SU, freshman infielder Jake Tsukada led Portland’s lineup by hitting .500 for the series (6-for-12) with two RBI.
