Joseph Anthony Castillo

In the evening hours of October 8, 2021, Joseph Anthony Castillo, a son, brother, father, husband, loyal friend and longtime resident of Sutter County, lost his life at the age of 66.

Joe is survived by his mother, Frances Singh Castillo; father, Jose Castillo; sister, Christine Odom (Gary); his children, Shannon Gardner, Derek Castillo (Jami), Joey Castillo, and Megan Castillo; his four grandchildren, Bradley Alves, Gaven Gardner, Natalee Gardner, and Tanner Castillo. He is also survived by his wife, Jeanine Craig-castillo, and her grandson, Tyler. Joe was also an important person in the lives of Matthew Cole and Kaden Cole.

Those that knew him will remember him for his wit, jokes, storytelling and his laugh.

He rose before sunrise every day for 29 years as a Rainbow Bread man. His boys loved to be picked up from grade school in the bread truck. Some may also remember his days cooking at Sambo’s.

Joe was always up for a good time and his Halloween parties were epic. His passions were cooking and gardening with his magical green thumb. He enjoyed camping, working in the yard, 49er games (as an avid fan who despised the Cowboys), and the Pirates of the Caribbean. His family will forever cherish annual wiffleball matches where somehow he always ended up on his back in the gravel.

Joe was a kindhearted man, who loved his children and bragged about them often. He was a loyal friend; running with the same group since his Tierra Buena days. He was a devoted son who would also do anything to help his friends and neighbors. He will be missed by many.

A private Celebration of Life will be held with his immediate family. You can best pay your respects by sharing your fond memories with laughter, preferably while screaming at the TV during a 49er game or while going all out in a wiffleball game.

In lieu of flowers, please donate a tree in Joe’s memory for our national forests. He loved giving pine trees as gifts and your donation would be a fitting tribute.
