-

Wanda Marie Bolen of Colusa, CA, a l oving wife, mother, grandmother , sister and friend, passed away quietly i n her home, due to complications from dementia, on October 16, 2021, at the age of 73. It was a battle that progressed more quickly than expected, yet as was the case with many things in her life, she fought all the way to the end.

Wanda grew up a “Military Brat,” moving all around the United States with her 2 siblings (Clyde and Robert). Her f a t her served in the Navy for over 25 years, making it challenging to settle down as t he family moved from place to place, but this upbringing also provided a solid foundation of discipline, structure, and faith which she l o v i ngl y passed on to her child r e n . Wand a also shared these attributes with the youth she served as a Teaching Assistant in the Colusa Unified School District and Colusa County Office of Education for many years.

Wanda and her husband Leonard ( who passed earlier this year) met in the Bay Area and soon after they fell in love, getting married in 1966. Together, they had 3 children: Kelley Hickel (husband Rob), J.R. Bolen (wife Melissa) and Kevin Bolen (wife Kari) while also welcoming Brad Waldrop (wife Andrea) and Carlos Rodriguez into their family. Over the years, Wanda’s family continued to expand with 10 grandchildren, Ashlyn, Jessica, Katelynn, Holley, Jillian, Emily, Ethan, Kayla, Kaiya and Kira.

One o f Wanda’ s greatest characteristics was her fighting spirit and desire to wholeheartedly advocate for what she believed was right. It’s what made her such a successful Teaching Assistant and a wonderfully, loving mother/grandmother. It also helped her in various capacities i n her work with Friends of Music, as a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colusa, as an officer for Stagehands, and a supporter of the Colusa Redhawk Athletic Foundation.

A memorial service wi l l n o t b e h e l d , however if you would like to pay tribute to the memory of Wanda, please feel free to donate to one of the following charities on her behalf: the Colusa Unified School District, the Colusa Redhawk Athletic Foundation, Friends of Music, Stagehands Theater of Colusa and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
