Paper Mache
One of the joys of our work at Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture is supporting local artists in various stages of their careers. This includes everyone from student artists to mature professional artists that work with us on major mural projects and other grant sponsored programs.
We just wrapped up two gallery shows in our Gallery in Marysville and the Theater Gallery at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, our first exhibitions since March of last year. Both shows involved working artists with fully developed careers.
During 2020 we supported a professional artist with a grant enabling her to mentor eight emerging artists, artists who had some skills, but needed that little something extra to move to the next level. They participated in monthly critiques and were also part of a virtual conversation around creating art in the time of COVID. The mentorship program concluded with two in-person gallery exhibits.
What about other student artists and artists of all ages just getting started or trying to step up their game a bit in terms of technique and maybe improve their marketing skills? For several years, YSAC has held an “Emerging Artists” gallery exhibition in December at its gallery in Marysville.
There is something special about having your work displayed in a gallery setting alongside other artists. The opening reception creates a festive atmosphere fueled by wonderful appetizers, adult beverages and great conversation with arts minded folks.
This is your open invitation to be part of this year’s Emerging Artist show. Bring two or three of your original pieces to the gallery at 624 E St. in Marysville on Thursday or Friday, Nov. 18 or 19. We will curate the show and host an opening reception on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 2-4 p.m. If you have been part of this show before, you know how much fun it is and if this is your first time, you are in for a treat.
