There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone the light remains. Martin "Sonny" Savedra created a light within us all that will be carried for generations.

Martin was born December 29, 1940, in Punto de Agua, New Mexico, the eldest of 17. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Martin was a feather weight boxer and proudly served in the Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was very proud to be a Veteran serving overseas.

As a hardworking man and part-time rice farmer, he worked 19 years at Yuba Community College before moving on to Sacramento HHSD, and finally working side by side Sopa at Sopa Thai Cuisine.

When he wasn't hard at work you would catch him on his Harley, usually with a loved one attached. Living in both Yuba and Sutter Counties, Martin cherished his community and neighbors. He had an infectious smile and generous wave. Being in his presence, you knew you were touched by greatness.

Martin passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023, at the age of 82. He is dearly missed by his family and friends.

There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart. Ghandi

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Jospeh Church, Marysville, March 24, 2023, at 10am.

William "Clark" Helmer passed away peacefully from cancer while under hospice care at his home in Yuba City, California, on March 7th, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 64 yrs old.

Born on Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, on September 14th, 1958, Clark was by definition a military brat. Throughout his childhood, he traveled base to base and even lived in Puerto Rico before his father William Helmer, was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in 1971. Ultimately bringing him to the Yuba-sutter area that he would call home for most of his life.

Clark attended Wheatland High School, graduating in 1976, and followed in his father's footsteps by joining the United States Air Force in 1977. He would eventually be extremely proud to state that three of his children would too follow in their succession; his son, Jake Helmer in the U.S. Navy, and daughters, Shane Helmer and Hailey Morello in the U.S. Army.

He honorably served in the Air Force as a pharmacy technician before receiving his degree from Yuba College and beginning his career as a registered nurse. He continued to serve his community unequivocally at Rideout Hospital as an RN, majoritively in the CVICU, for over 35 years.

He was an incredibly diligent and committed human; to his work, to his family, to his country; he gave his all and then some. There was nothing he could not or would not do for those that he loved. Sometimes referred to as a "man of few words," he was, in truth, extraordinarily intentional with each of his words and actions and took great pride in providing and caring for his family. He was heavily influenced by his upbringing, including the military roles of both of his fathers, and his own. These factors contributed to his strong yet subtle nature, and enabled him to provide and care for others in an extraordinary, stable, understanding and nurturing way.

Clark was and continues to be, described by his loved ones as humble, gentle, honorable, and kind - so kind. His most powerful attribute was his ability to heal. Whether it be the thousands of patients he helped treat, his family, or his community, he had an exceptional talent for providing comfort and care.

He was heavily passionate about medicine, particularly the heart, as well as football and The Beatles. In his free time, he loved to watch movies and war documentaries, cook outrageously large meals for his family, and take his 1967 Ford Mustang out for a drive.

He genuinely touched the lives of every person he met. He was thoroughly loved and enjoyed by all of those that knew him. His family is currently heartbroken in grieving the loss of such a pivotal piece of their lives, but are taking comfort in the years they spent together and appreciation for the quality time they shared in his final moments.

Clark is survived by his wife, Lisamarie Helmer; his six children, Jake Helmer (San Diego, CA), Shane Helmer (Fort Hood, TX), David Amaro (Antioch, CA), Madison Amaro (Yuba City, CA), Ashley Morello (San Francisco, CA) and Hailey Morello (Chievres, Belgium); his mother, Gwendolyn Amaro (Linda, CA); and brother, Scott Helmer (Yuba City, CA). He is preceded in death by his two fathers; William Helmer and Alfonso Amaro.

Per Clark's wishes no funeral or services will be held.

In place of flowers or gifts, donations may be sent to: Trauma Intervention Program (Tip), PO Box 645, Marysville, CA 95901.
