Re: Biden vs. Trump: World leader

In all fairness Mr. Trump is ill prepared to function in a group of equally powerful people intent on solving problems that span several or all countries. He is seemingly more at ease directing things be done than coming to a consensus. (In pre-school jargon “He doesn’t play well with others.”) Mr. Trump has expressed the desire to take the US out of NATO.

One only has to recall his performance at the NATO summit where his sole claim to fame was standing at the door making sure everyone paid their fair admission fee for participation. While it was something that needed correcting it is sad that he would chose that as opposed to world hunger or drinkable water to champion. Most recently he has vowed not to come to the aid of a country that is delinquent in paying their dues. And his rude and brash demeanor managed to alienate many world leaders. I don’t know if anyone else felt the embarrassment but I was astounded. The irony is that while he took a sense of accomplishment from his action he refuses to make corporations pay their fair share to participate in the American economy?

President Biden is eminently qualified to operate on this stage having done so for years. He is well versed on the many problems and the interests of the players involved. President Biden along with Secretary of State Blinken and Secretary of Defence Austin in the prelude to the Ukraine war accomplished one of the most powerful acts of diplomacy in recent history. They revitalized NATO and marshalled them to aid in the defense of the Ukraine against an unprovoked attack by Russia. Putin perception was that NATO was becoming weak and disorganized and sought to take advantage believing no one would have the guts to interfere. The US pledged its support to Ukraine and rallied NATO members to come together and do the same. A massive diplomatic coup. A by product is that Sweden and Finland will now become members of NATO thus strengthening what has once again become a robust defense against communist expansionism.

The job description for being president requires you represent the interest of the US in dealing with the world. This is not something that one can just pull back from and declare “America first” and leave it at that. Your vote will determine how you want the US to be represented on the world stage. Decide carefully as much is at stake.

Re: Yuba College basketball

You don’t have to travel far to enjoy the greatest entertainment venue within a hundred miles. Just drive out to Yuba College this Thursday night to watch the last Men’s Basketball home game of the season. Even if you are not a basketball fan or even a sports aficionado you cannot help but be stunned and delighted by this team. Whether you see Devon Malcolm spring from flat on his back to a standing position and then execute a left handed backwards layup or Caden Flowers and Rohan Sheemar sink back to back 3 pointers, Cason Chaney sprinting down court and Major Sullivan snagging rebounds you know you are watching excellence in motion. The bench is deep with many skillful teammates ready to take over at any time.

No, their names are not synonymous with Curry, James or Bryant .. not yet but they may be in the future. This team has clinched the 2024 Bay Valley Championship so now may be the time to get player’s autographs!
