Area Outstanding Youth Awards
Lambda Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority is pleased to announce the Outstanding Youth candidates and winners.
Lambda Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority is pleased to announce the Outstanding Youth candidates and the winner from each of the six middle schools in McDonald County.
Three eighth-grade students are nominated from each school by school personnel and must follow the requirements to be eligible. Parents or guardians must give their written permission for each candidate to participate. The required forms are then filled out by both students and parents, and three letters of recommendation are acquired; only one can be from school personnel.
The candidates are interviewed at their schools by a panel of Lambda Chi chapter members and are required to write a short essay just before that interview. The topic of the essay is not known in advance. An ESA member, other than one of the interview panel, presents the award as part of the eighth-grade promotion ceremonies at each of the community schools. The chapter member making the presentation is listed after the winner’s name and parents.
The candidates and their parents from each school are listed below with the winner named first:
Anderson: Autumn Hottinger, Tom and Carla Hottinger (Nancy Call), Alison Nicoletti, Tony and Michelle Nicoletti
Noel: Rita Santillan, Aracelia and Hipolito Santillan (Barbara Keaton), John Howard, William and Tresia Howard, Aidan Chamberlain, Dianna and William Chamberlain

Rocky Comfort: Caitlin Hall, Michael and Kimberly Hall (Margarette Mitchell), Sam Fox, James and Sarah Fox, Matthais Shearer, grandparents, Richard Deal and Elizabeth Hill

These young people are a credit to their teachers and their families and will represent their respective schools and communities well at McDonald County High School in the future, organizers said. As in years past, organizers said, the sorority members were delighted to meet them and are sorry each could not receive a plaque “because all are truly winners in our book.”
