Goodman Council Discusses Fireworks, Painting

- Rita Greene

Goodman Mayor Greg Richmond thanked Fred Nelson of Anderson, for donating 130 gallons of paint to the city of Goodman to be used where needed. The thank you came June 9, during the Good City Council meeting.

Alderman Keith Kohley addressed the council requesting that the police and emergency management building be sprayed due to an ant infestation. The council agreed to spray the building as soon as possible, then have it sprayed when City Hall is sprayed each quarter.

Kohley noted that the bumper and lights on the Expedition need to be fixed. Richmond suggested getting a bid for the cost.

Kohley noted to the council that fireworks are already going off in Goodman, although the ordinance that allows shooting fireworks is July 4 only. Kohley noted that shooting off fireworks on days other than July 4 needs to be stopped.

Richmond noted that the property at 108 W. Garner is not being maintained and a letter should be sent to the owner. City supervisor David Brodie said the owner of the property has moved. Brodie was asked to mow the property.

David Brodie recommended that security fencing should be installed around the water tank and well house. He recommended a 6-foot-tall fence with three strands of barbed wire and a double gate — one to walk through and one to drive through. He said he will research the cost of the fence, then it can be put out for bid.

Richmond thanked David Brodie who completed 25 years of service on June 10.

Karla McNorton, acting city clerk, noted that the additional high grass and weeds list has been mailed out.

The council discussed and approved bills from June 7, 2016, in the amount of $46,578.44.
