Save The Best For Last

-

The first thing I want to do is thank the Lord for the wonderful rain we got Sunday.

We had a very spirit-filled worship service ending with the loved hymn, “How Great Thou Art.” The words of many old tunes contain a message that stirs the excitement brought from looking forward to the coming of the Lord.

Next Sunday we will be celebrating Father’s Day. Be sure that you take the hand of that dear father who lovingly raised you and attend the church of your choice. What better place to be together. The house of the Lord is where Jesus and his Father are the center of our worship. Make it a blessed day and enjoy the blessings that are waiting for you.

Pastor Bob Cartwright spoke to us this morning about saving the best for last, sort of like “Eat your meal, but save room for that special dessert.” We are often blessed in this life and can hardly imagine anything better. John 2:1-10 tells of the wedding supper and how Jesus turned the water into wine. When his mother said that they were out of wine and had no way to get more, Jesus told her in so many words, “Don’t worry have faith.”

This should be our instruction in every situation. Never limit the way our needs are met. In 1 Corinthians 2, another example of the best for last is found in verses 9-12. It stirs our hearts and makes us dream of the things to come. We are told that eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the hearts of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. In verse 12, we read that we are not filled with the spirit of the world, but that of our Creator. The things given by our Lord are given freely. Think about it: which spirit is your life built upon? Remember the things of this life will one day crumble.

1 Corinthians 15:19 is very dear to me, for it states that we do have hope in another life. In my words, I claim that if we have hope in this life only, we are, of all people, most miserable. Place your hope in things eternal where we will ever be in a place where there will be a mansion waiting for you and peace is in the heart of all who abide there. One day Satan will be defeated, and in Revelations 20:1 we read of an angel who will lay hold on the devil and cast him into the bottomless pit. That day will be one of sweet victory.

Our birth is the beginning of a journey. We will have sorrow and pain, but when we leave this old world we will reach the best. We will rise to meet our maker, and He will be waiting beyond this veil of tears. It is our choice to be pleasing to God or to turn to the pleasures of this life, which only last for a season. Judgment will surely come. Where will you stand?

Revelation 21:4 describes that place of joy. The promise is that God shall wipe all tears away and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things have passed away. He will make all things new. He that overcometh shall inherit those things that Christ has saved for the last. It will be the best, and he has already paid for it on the Cross of Calvary. We have so much to look forward to. How can we not rejoice?

If you do not have a home church, you are invited to worship with us at The Cove Mission of Hope on Sunday 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Come and receive a blessing and meet those who welcome visitors with love and open arms. Have a great week!
