Crashes Claim 1 Life, Hurt Two Officers
McDonald County has been the scene of more than a dozen motor vehicle accidents in the past few weeks.
An Anderson man was killed Aug. 4 following a motorcycle accident.
A law enforcement vehicle, a tractor trailer, and multiple motorcycles have recently been involved in crashes around the county as well.
Zebedia A. Brewer, 38, of Anderson, was on westbound along Thief Hollow Road east of Anderson at approximately 9:30 p.m. Aug. 4 when he hit a deer with the 2003 Honda motorcycle he was driving. The vehicle proceeded to run off the roadway and strike a tree, ejecting Brewer from the motorcycle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports indicate that he was not wearing a safety device.
At approximately 11:12 p.m. Aug. 12, officers Jeremy W. Walker, 39, of Pineville and Sonya N. Dawson, 41, of Anderson were involved in a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Missouri Highways 59 and 90 in Noel.
They were responding to a disturbance in a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, with lights and sirens activated, when the vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a bluff.
The Crown Victoria was totalled and Walker and Dawson were transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin with moderate injuries.
Reports from the Missouri Highway Patrol indicate that Dawson was wearing a seat belt, but Walker was not.
William B. Cadwell, 50, of Pea Ridge, Ark. was involved in an accident at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. While travelling north on Route KK, 10 miles east of Jane, an unknown vehicle pulled from a private drive into the path of Caldwell’s 2003 Yamaha Roadstar.
He laid the motorcycle over to avoid collision. He sustained moderate damage to the vehicle. Caldwell was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark., with moderate injuries. Reports indicate that he was wearing a safety device.
The unknown vehicle left the scene before being identified.
On Aug. 15, a tractor-trailer carrying 28,000 pounds of frozen turkey products crashed on U.S. Highway 71 in Pineville. The truck went airborn, went up a hillside, then rolled off a bluff onto the highway’s shoulder. For details, see the photograph above.
