Shooting Victim Recovering In Hospital

- Megan Davis

A woman from Stark City faces felony charges of first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action following a shooting on Aug. 6.

At approximately 1:23 a.m. authorities were dispatched to Green Valley Apartments, between Anderson and Lanagan, in reference to possible shots fired.

The shots-fired call became a shooting situation when McDonald County Sheriff ’s deputies and officers from the Anderson Police Department arrived to find a 46-year-old male walking along Missouri Highway 59 with a bullet wound to his left forearm. According to court records, the wound passed through his arm.

The victim is not being identified at this time.

He also had what was described as a “superficial, glancing-type gunshot wound” to his left rear shoulder.

Upon speaking with deputies, the victim identified the shooter as Sara L. Spears, 39, of Stark City.

Spears was subsequently located by her truck in the parking lot of the apartments.

According to reports, five spent .380 caliber shell casings were located around the vehicle. All four tires of which were flattened by what appeared to be a single gunshot to each.

The rear glass of the vehicle was also blown out by a bullet found lodged in the door frame of the passenger-side door.

Two additional bullet holes were discovered in a kayak in the back of the victim’s truck.

Inside the victim’s residence,

spatters of blood were found along with two bullet holes. One bullet was still lodged in the wall of the main room and another had exited through the window pane nearest the bed.

The victim stated that Spears shot him twice inside the cabin — resulting in his injuries.

For those keeping track, that makes nine shots fired.

While logging Spears’ property into evidence, reports state that three unspent .380 caliber bullets were found in her pocket and a box of .380 caliber bullets were found in the front passenger seat of her vehicle.

All of the spent shell casings recovered from the scene were of the same caliber.

As for the victim, he is recovering at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been interviewed by deputies.

Spears’ case has been referred to a public defender.
