Cafo Permit In Goodman Is Being Appealed

-

An appeal of the operating permit issued to Roger Renner for confined animal feeding operation northeast of Goodman has been filed, according to the Department of Natural Resources in Jefferson City.

According to the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission, a hearing regarding the appeal is set for Oct. 4, with a decision deadline of Nov. 30.

Renner, operating at RNR Farms LLC at 615 Brodie Road, received the permit on July 6 for a dry litter operation consisting of eight production buildings, a stack shed and a mortality composter.

Renner’s proposed quarter-million chicken operation has been met with strong opposition from Goodman residents.

Residents have met with a panel from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to voice their concerns, including how their wells will be affected/contaminated, odor/ air pollution, burden to the taxpayers regarding the roads used by the operation, plummeting property values near the proposed operation, and health and environmental hazards.

Hundreds of Goodman-area residents signed a petition which was sent to the Missouri Department Of Natural Resources protesting Renner’s proposed operation.

Renner has continued building the chicken operation in Goodman in spite of the opposition and appeal.
