Ellen ‘Addie’ Payton
Ellen “Addie” Payton, 84, of Anderson, Mo., departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at her residence after months of declining health. She entered this life on March 24, 1932, in Noel, Mo., the daughter of the late William Alvin and Maude (McNabney) Lancaster.
On April 11, 1949, in Fayetteville, Ark., she was united in marriage to Carl Alvin Payton Sr. and together they shared 48 years before his passing on July 14, 1997. They resided 31 years in Kansas City, Mo., before purchasing their farm near Lanagan in 1978. She was a devoted homemaker and helpmate to her husband throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Payton Sr.; a son, Carl Payton Jr.; a sister, Louise Shingleton; and three brothers, Melvin, Robert and Corky Lancaster.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marie Smith and husband, Ralph, of Anderson and Jackie Mick and husband, Roger, of Kearney, Mo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Barbara Jean Middleton of Independence, Kan.; and a host of other family and friends.
