Webb City Outlasts Lady Mustangs Volleyball

Webb City was able to hold on to win the third and deciding game to hand the McDonald County High School volleyball team a 25-23, 19-25, 25-23 loss in a spirited match on Sept. 1 at MCHS.

The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the third game, but McDonald County answered with four consecutiv­e points on the way to building a 10-7 lead. Webb City rallied with seven straight points to take a 15-11 advantage and then stretched the lead to 22-15 to seemingly put away the match.

But the never-say-die Lady Mustangs, fueled by a raucous student section, scored seven straight points behind the serving of Lauren Goff to tie the game at 22. Webb City took a 24-22 lead to have two match points. The Lady Mustangs saved the first, then, Webb City converted the second to take the match.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first game before Webb City scored the final two points of the game to break a 23-23 tie for the win.

In the second game, the Lady Mustangs led 12-11 before scoring 13 of the game’s final 21 points to even the match. The second game was delayed after Webb City complained of McDonald County’s student section standing on the floor. After the two officials conferred, the students were not allowed to stand on the floor for the rest of the match.

McDonald County was led by Bailey Rickett with 15 kills and 15 service points and Destiny Arnall with 21 assists, 12 service points, 12 digs and six kills. Lauren Goff added 17 service points and Lindsey Limore had seven kills.

Webb City claimed a 25-11, 25-16 win the junior varsity match and a 25-17, 25-20 win in the freshman match.

McDonald County is now 4-5 for

the season heading in to its Sept. 6 match at Neosho. The Lady Mustangs return home on Sept. 8 to face Carl Junction. Matches begin at 5 p.m.

Cassville

McDonald County cruised to a 25-7, 25-15 win over Cassville on Aug. 30 at MCHS in the Big 8 Conference.

McDonald County jumped out to an early 6-0 lead behind the serving of Arnall. The Lady Mustangs stretched the lead to 9-1 and lead 14-4 before outscoring the Lady Wildcats 11-3 down the stretch to claim the win in the first game.

In the second game, Arnall’s serves again, staked the Lady Mustangs to a quick lead, with McDonald County taking a 4-0 advantage to start the game on the way to an early 10-3 lead.

Cassville cut the score to 18-12 late in the game, but the Lady Mustangs scored six consecutiv­e points to stretch the lead to 24-12. Cassville scored three straights points before McDonald County converted the game winning point.

Arnall finished with 15 service points and six digs while Hollie Garvin added 13 service points. Limore added six kills and Alex Gross had three with Rickett having five service points, four digs and two kills.

The McDonald County junior varsity made it a clean sweep, claiming a 25-21, 25-21 win.
