First Year Has Been A Learning Year

-

My Name is Keaton Moore. I am a member of the Splitlog 4-H club. I was a Clover Kid for three years and now I have finished my first year as a member.

There are four wonderful reasons I have a strong interest in 4-H, it’s because my mother, aunt, uncle and grandpa were very active in 4-H growing up. My grandpa as a retired County Extension agent has been a huge influence in my decision to be involved in 4-H. I also have a cousin that practices and helps me excel in many areas of 4-H and have encouraged me to do the same and set goals high.

I have learned more than I expected this past year in my shooting sports project from the help of a close friend and my uncle. He has helped me learn the importance of practicing shooting my .22, Ole Henry, and how important good posture is. This lesson has helped me not only with shooting my gun but in my school classrooms and meetings.

I have spent more time with my show pigs this past year. I plan to have two projects next year, shooting sports and swine.

I had the experience of raising two show pigs last year. I competed in the county fair, we didn’t win — but we had fun. I was able to stand in front of a judge and shake his hand at the end. I learned a lot about keeping them clean and the pen clean.

What I like most about 4-H is the opportunities that it has already presented me with. Without my experiences in 4-H I don’t know if I would have ever been able to speak in front of judges, large groups and in front of my own classroom at school.
