God Can Fix What’s Wrong

-

We opened service with a wonderful, spirit-filled worship service, followed by a very compelling song titled “I’m Too Close to Heaven to Turn Around.” Pastor Bob has sung this song many times, but it never fails to move all who hear. God has blessed our little church with so much talent. You will have to admit that there are times when a song turns into a sermon.

We had two young sisters who had birthdays. Lexie and Katie Crosby were born two years and three days apart, so of course they are very close and, I might add, sweet. They are a part of our church family, and we love having them. May God bless them with many more birthdays.

Last week, I failed to say how glad we are to have Bailey Taylor back after her surgery. We pray her Daddy will heal as quickly as she did.

Our scripture for this Lord’s day began with Isaiah 5:8-21. It is interesting that God warns us that we are not to call good evil and evil good. You might say, “How can this be?” Stop and think.

Sometimes we tend to overlook things that we know in our heart are transgressing the laws of God. We call them “not that bad.” I am here to tell you there are no gray areas in the Word of God. That is why we must study the Word and in it find the answers to the question “What’s Wrong?”

No matter how much we try, there are times we just cannot find the right answer to the situation that causes us so much pain. It’s in the holy book called the Bible. We will only hear from God if we make ourselves available. Do you really want to hear what He says about this problem? Sometimes we want our own way so badly that we are not ready to listen to the answer. In Isiah 1:18, we read that we are to reason together. You are not alone, and this is another promise we have been given. We are told that though our sins be as scarlet, the blood of Jesus has made them white as snow. He can cleanse us from all our sins and plant feet on holy ground where we can take the path that leads to everlasting life.

We must be faithful to his commandments. In Matthew 26:41 is an example of how not to please Jesus. Jesus was in the garden where he went to pray. He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and he was very sorrowful because his time for the cross was drawing near. He left those who came with him and went a little farther from them, falling on his face and praying. He ask them to tarry and watch with him. When he returned, he found them sleeping. He reminded them that the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

We have to stay in the shadow of our Lord in order to find the strength to overcome the flesh and the temptations we face. God sent his son to provide a way of escape from the destruction that sin has brought upon the lives of his children. We should always make it our goal to lift the name of Jesus and never feel that there are answers other than the ones we find in his Word.

In closing, Pastor Bob told us once again that God knows what is wrong and always makes a way where there seems to be no way. We want to be found watching for his coming and praying for all who will come and join in this wonderful life of promise.

Due to some conflict in dates, we will have the Ladies Meeting Oct. 15 and the Harvest Celebration Oct. 16. Come join us and bring a friend. Everyone is welcome to come for a time of food and fellowship.
