Cross Country Squads Run In State Capital Meet

Alex Guadarrama led the McDonald County High School boys cross country team at the Capital City Cross Country Challenge held Saturday in Jefferson City.

Guadarrama finished in 112th place in a time of 18:40.36. Rounding out the McDonald County results were David Lazalde, 118th, 18:42.57; Jackson Behm, 144th, 19:02.08; James King, 159th, 19:39.62; Garrett Spears, 182nd, 20:25.57; Tyler Moritz, 184th, 20:31.80; Truman Craig, 187th, 20:40.31; and Andrew Landers, 202nd, 22:43.44.

Victor Mugeche of Blue Springs beat a field of 205 to win the race in a time of 15:47.47.

Mugeche led Blue Springs to the team title with Lee’s Summit West in second and Lee’s Summit North in third. McDonald County finished in 25th place out of 29 teams.

Girls

Addy Mick led the McDonald County girls, finishing in 142nd place in a time of 23:27.39. Other McDonald County results were Andrea Creason, 144th, 23:28.27; Natalie Staib, 186th, 25:53.19; and Liberty Boer, 192nd, 27:28.88.

Tessa Valdivia of Blue Springs won the girls’ race in a time of 18:59.17. There were a total of 195 runners in the race.

Lee’s Summit West won the team title followed by Park Hill South in second and Blue Springs in third. McDonald County did not field a full team.

Junior Varsity

Isaiah Garvin led the McDonald County junior varsity boys in 154th place in a time of 21:14.71. Bryce Berryhill was 199th in a time of 22:01.29 followed by Tyler Jackson in 270th in 23:57.37.

Ruby Palomo was the lone McDonald County entrant in the girls’ junior varsity race. Palomo finished in 186th place in a time of 32:45.21.

Jason Farmer of Lee’s Summit West won the boys JV race in 18:01.88 while Jaklyn won the girls’ JV race in 21:10.45. There was a field of 315 in the boys’ race and 207 runners in the girls’ race.

McDonald County’s next race is the Big 8 Conference Cross Country Championsh­ips set for Oct. 15 at Seneca.
