Protect And Servce
A special look at the people who serve our communities throughout the county.
Michael Hall has been in law enforcement for nearly two decades and has held the title of McDonald County Sheriff for four years.
In the past year, the department has gained one road deputy and one road deputy was promoted to detective, bringing the number of employees on the payroll to 30.
This includes the road deputies, detectives, jailers, and administration staff that patrol the community and keep the jail running smoothly 365 days a year.
Last month the facility began the challenging process of renovating the jail while still maintaining day-to-day operations.
“The hardest part right now is sharing what office space we have,” Hall said. “Space is at a prime low so whoever gets to work first, gets the best space.”
Deputies are working out of the Pineville Police Department and the Emergency Management Office while their offices are renovated. Some officers also work on reports remotely when possible.
The renovation will serve to double the inmate capacity, expand the deputy’s offices, and upgrade the kitchen to an industrial standard.
It will also replace some of the infrastructure.
“We plan to move the females to a bigger pod and all pipes, electrical wiring, and the fire suppression system will be redone,” Hall said. “It’s been in there since ’93 so it needed to be done.
