last surviving child of eight.

He committed his life to follow Christ in his mid-forties in a church service; his life was changed from that moment forward. He was a wonderful father; a man of quiet strength, conviction and perseverance. He worked hard to provide for his family and gave an abundance of love, support and wise counsel. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Rocky Comfort.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He worked as a foreman for Snyder Construction Company in Joplin for 40 years. He was a skilled carpenter who had the ability to manage, design, build a new bridge or repair an old lawn mower. He enjoyed being outside and working with his hands, and, for 55 years, he also owned and operated a farm outside of Rocky Comfort before moving to Nixa, Mo., to be closer to his son.

He is survived by his only son, Jerry Carlin, pastor of The Springs Church, and his wife, Donna, of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Justin Carlin and wife Lurin of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Caleb Carlin and wife Sara of Nixa, and Charissa Fuhr and husband Brandon of Springfield; and five great-grandchildren, Tenley Carlin, Taelyn Carlin, Landry Carlin, Lawson Carlin and Blakely Fuhr.

“Someone said the best thing a Godly man can give his children is to love their Mother. If that is the truth, we are truly blessed. Dad and Mom deeply loved each other. They were married for 69 years, and he was by her side until she took her last breath in February 2016. After a short separation, they are together again in heaven.”

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at the Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church in Rocky Comfort, Mo., with Pastor Melvin (Hap) Anders and Pastor Bill Gilkerson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday at the church prior to the service from 10 a.m. until service time. The casket will be closed at service time to remain closed.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.

Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.
