Prosecuting Attorney Cares About McDonald County
Bill Dobbs has been the McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney since 2010. Dobbs is a native of Goodman and has worked in McDonald County throughout his professional life.
Dobbs was the Chief Juvenile Officer of McDonald and Newton Counties from 1987-1995 then became senior assistant prosecuting attorney in Newton County prior to becoming prosecuting attorney for McDonald County.
“As prosecuting attorney, I enjoy working with the victims,” Dobbs said, “we have opened our doors to victims and their families. We help victims through their testimony and make them familiar with the process.”
Dobbs said he has had good success in the courtroom in reaching resolutions. He said his office interfaces with all law enforcement in the county and has very good relations with them.
“We make active suggestions in dealing with cases,” Dobbs said.
Dobbs said the prosecutor’s office is available to the people of the county regarding any concerns they may have.
“We get good support from the community,” Dobbs said, “and I feel like we are moving in a good direction. In the future, it would be very helpful to have an investigator assigned to this office who could assist law enforcement in day-today practice.”
Dobbs said the county commission has been very supportive of the prosecuting attorney’s office.
“My wife, Karen, and I love McDonald County,” Dobbs said. One reason of many is because there are a lot of people in this county who put in a lot of hours to the betterment of the community. It doesn’t matter what town you are from — you are still part of the county.”
Dobbs wife, Karen, is from Neosho and has been a social worker in McDonald County for more than 30 years.
The Dobbs have three daughters, three sons and twelve grandchildren — “all living within fairly close proximity,” Dobbs said, “which we enjoy.”
