Noel Woman’s Club Hears Presentation On Sulphur Springs

The October meeting of the Noel Woman’s Club was called to order by President Dot, then the Lord’s Prayer was recited.

Retha Mitchell was introduced as the evening’s speaker. She quizzed those in attendance on knowledge of Missouri. Did you know Missouri became a state in 1821, or that McDonald County became a County in 1849? Her main program was on the history of Sulphur Springs, Ark., a neighbor to the south. She had recently received information at the library on how it was formed and the scores of folks that flocked there for the healing waters. Today, the beautiful park remains for visitors to enjoy.

Roll call was taken and minutes were read and approved.

A report was given on the bake sale that was recently held. The club thanked everyone for coming out and supporting them.

Thank yous were issued to Lisa, Kayla and Melissa for setting up a Facebook page.

Members were decked out in costume or “Tacky Clothes” for Halloween. This is traditionally called the “Tacky Party,” a version of Halloween. Members vote on the winner for the coming year. Linda relinquished her crown to Louine this year. Check out the Facebook page for pictures of the new “Miss Tacky.”

Next month will be election of new officers and will be snack night. Members are to bring snacks to share. They will also be collecting Christmas stockings and gifts for the stockings for donation to the foster children of McDonald County.
