Anderson City Council discussed the possibility of installing emergency power generators at vital locations around town during their regular meeting on Tuesday.

Mayor John Sellers said he would like to see generators at the wastewater treatment center, the final lift station, and the town’s east well. He noted that the east well supplies the majority of the residents’ water and, in the event of an emergency, would allow 90 to 95 percent of the town to maintain water use.

“I would like to see one at every well and lift station eventually,” Sellers added. “Water and sanitation are very important in times of emergency.”

Reports

Police Chief Daniel Gardner reported an uneventful Halloween evening. He also discussed the purchase of higher patrol cars with the council. He noted that $20,000 was budgeted for a new vehicle this year.

Gardner noted that the newest vehicle has been running flawlessly.

Public Works Director Dane Small reported replacing the motor on the east well. He said it blew the top seal out of the motor.

“It sounds like a lightning strike, without a doubt,” Sellers said.

Small is working to see if insurance can and will reimburse the city for the cost, approximately $11,000.

The Water Department also replaced 300 feet of pipe on Bluff Street. Small noted that the residents connected to the pipe were pleased.

The department plans to tackle projects at the intersection of Grandview and Bellview streets and Grandview and Tracey streets.

Small spoke about a water flow problem in the industrial park. Workers will be running a new line to improve fire flow to Roxell and Four State Printing. In other business: • The council voted to accept a bid to repave the intersection of Cedar and Patterson streets as well as the intersection of Patterson and U.S. Highway 71 Business. They accepted a bid of $32,845 from Hutchins Construction of Cassville pending an agreement on a starting date.

• Sellers informed the council that an easement has been found for Cook Hill Road — an area that has problems with washing during heavy rain. He is currently discussing sharing the cost of a solution with the county.

• The council voted to adopt an ordinance granting an easement to the the company that owns the cell tower on the east side of town.

• The council voted to hire officer Derek Schooley fulltime with full benefits.

• The council voted to purchase a one-time cleaning service from Worker Bee Window Company at City Hall for consideration.
