Junior High Boys Basketball Teams Defeat Monett

The McDonald County seventh-grade boys basketball team managed to keep its season-long winning streak intact, but not without getting a scare from the Lamar Tigers in the Mustangs’ 34-29 win on Jan. 23 at Lamar.

Lamar led 7-6 after the first period and 17-14 at halftime before McDonald County rallied in the third quarter to take a 28-23 lead into the final period.

Bo Leach led McDonald County with 12 points followed by Garrett Gricks with eight, Junior Eliam six, Pierce Harmon five, Dylan Igisomar two and Cole Martin one.

Four players scored in double figures to lead the McDonald County B team to a 55-24 win. Devin Swanson, Colton Ruddick, Eli McClain and S.J. Joseph all scored 10 points to lead the Mustangs. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Levi Helm with seven points, Logan Harriman six and Matthew Mora two.

The seventh grade A team improved to 10-0 with a 59-12 win over Monett on Jan. 26 at Pineville Junior High School.

Gricks scored 14 points and Leach 13 to lead McDonald County followed by Eliam with 10 points, Harmon eight, Igisomar six, Martin five and Mora three.

The B team had five players score in double figures in its 73-9 win. Leading the way was McClain with 16 points followed by Harriman with 14 points, Swanson, Ruddick and Helm 12 each and Joseph with seven.

Eighth Grade

Lamar defeated the McDonald County eighth grade boys A team 38-31 on Jan. 23 in Lamar.

Trent Alik led the Mustangs in scoring with 13 points followed by Parker Harris with seven, Chris Arrowood four, Irael Marcos three and Logan Renner and Jackson Clarkson two each.

The McDonald County B team gave the Mustangs a split with a 39-25 win behind 18 points from Trayce McCool. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Jordan Meador and Sebastian Gill with seven points each, Damian Martinez three and Ricky Sanchez and Carlos Sosa two each.

The McDonald County A team rebounded with a 31-25 win over Monett on Jan. 26 at Anderson Middle School. Harris scored 16 points and Alik had 10 to lead the Mustangs followed by Renner with three and Marcos with two.

The eighth grade B team dropped a 31-28 decision. Scoring for the Mustangs was as follows: Gill eight, McCool and Meador six each, Sanchez four, Grayson Farris three and Parker Toney one.

The eighth grade A team improved to 4-5 with its win over Monett.

Both seventh and eighth grade teams hosted Aurora on Jan. 30 and traveled to Cassville on Jan. 31 before they close out the regular season against Webb City on Feb. 2 at home. The seventh grade games are at Pineville Junior High School and the eighth grade games are at Anderson Middle School. The A game begins at 5:30 p.m. in both gyms.
