Volleyball Coach Resigns

EXPANDING FAMILY DROVE THE DECISION FOR KUHN TO STEP DOWN

- Rick Peck

After leading the McDonald County High School volleyball team to a 71-86-13 record in her five years, Kacha Kuhn has resigned as head coach of the Lady Mustangs.

“During my five years, I was blessed with lots of talented athletes and wonderful young ladies,” Kuhn said. “In addition, I had wonderful support from the administration and from my family.”

Kuhn is a 2001 graduate of McDonald County, where she was a threesport athlete before attending college at Oklahoma State University.

“Coaching at McDonald County was my dream job,” Kuhn said. “I loved it. I have a big heart for Lady Mustang athletics and will always support it. I hope to get back into coaching sometime.”

Kuhn is a physical education and weight training teacher at the high school and plans to continue her teaching career with the McDonald County School District.

Kuhn said it was a very difficult decision to step down as volleyball coach, but with the addition of a third boy this past fall, time demands of raising a family and coaching are too much.

“The only reason for getting out is three young kids — Dayce, 4, Diesel, 2, and Denver, 4 months — who I need to spend more time at home with,” Kuhn said. “I want to spend time with them and I need to take care of my family. Hopefully, when they get a little bit bigger, I will get back into coaching. I will continue to support the Lady Mustangs in any capacity that I can. I might get into junior high coaching in the near future.”

Kuhn said it was a “really, really hard” decision to give up coaching at this time.

“Every time I am at school I think I can balance it out, but when I get home I think ‘no way,’” Kuhn said. “My husband (Dusty) is super supportive and has always supported me coaching. We made the decision and prayed about it, and it was time to take a few years off.”

In her last two years, the Lady Mustangs were 29- 31- 1. Kuhn said she thinks the improvement

reflects the growth of volleyball in McDonald County.

“I feel that the program is growing, and that is exciting,” Kuhn said.

“Our numbers have been good. We have always had a freshman team and we have had a lot of four-year players. We have the new floor in the gym and the drop-down net, and I feel like the program is going in the right direction.”

Kuhn began her coaching and teaching career in 2006 at Rocky Comfort Elementary School and Junior High School before moving to the high school in 2011.

“I just want to thank the administration for the opportunity and their support,” Kuhn said.

“I have enjoyed working with my girls and all the athletes in the weight room.”

Athletic Director Nick Martin said he appreciated the dedication Kuhn displayed for Lady Mustangs athletics.

“Kacha did a great job and will be greatly missed,” Martin said. “She is very passionate about McDonald County volleyball. I completely understand her decision — family comes first. She has done a great job building the program over the past five years.”
