Historical Society Presents Major Bell

- Staff Reports

The McDonald County Historical Society will present “Stories of Military Service” with speaker Maj. Kimberly Bell at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in the Pineville Community Center. Maj. Bell is presently McDonald County Clerk.

Maj. Bell will be speaking about her 25 years of military service. She was deployed to Afghanistan 2004-2005 and Kuwait 20112012 and will talk about her experiences of being female, raising a family in the county and serving her country. She will display some very interesting items she collected from her deployment in these countries.

The Historical Society will be using this event as the launch of a campaign to reach out to McDonald County veterans to collect and preserve their stories of military service.

The event is free and open to the community. Light refreshments will be served.

The McDonald County Historical Society was formed to collect, preserve and share the rich and unique history of McDonald County and to preserve that history and culture for future generations. Since 2011, the group has restored the Old County Courthouse on the Square and has created a fabulous County History Museum. Fourth-graders come for a field trip in the fall. It is a great destination for family reunions and for visits with the grandchildren.

The Museum will reopen Saturday, May 27, with the annual Grand Opening History Live Celebration and then will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays until December.
