Baseball Team 2-1 In Scrimmages

SEASON OPENS FRIDAY AT TOURNAMENT IN HARRISON, ARK.

The 2017 McDonald County High School baseball team went 2-1 in a series of three-inning scrimmages at a four-team preseason jamboree held Friday

at MCHS.

The 2017 McDonald County High School baseball team went 2-1 in a series of three-inning scrimmages at a four-team preseason jamboree held Friday at MCHS.

McDonald County opened the jamboree with a 6-3 win over East Newton.

Tyler Sellers pitched the first two innings, allowing two runs on one hit, while striking out two and hitting two batters. Both hit batters came in the second when East Newton scored two runs on just one hit.

McDonald County scored three runs in the first, all coming with two outs. Jaime Hanke singled before Jon Martin was hit by a pitch and Victor Payne reached on an error to load the bases. Joe Brown singled in the first run and Tyler Stoutsenberger followed with a two-run single.

In the third, East Newton tied the game with a run in the top half of the inning off of reliever A.J. Madewell on an infield hit and error.

McDonald County scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Emanuel Baisch and a two-run homer by Hanke.

Hanke pitched a scoreless first in the Mustangs’ 3-1 win over Diamond. In the bottom half of the first, McDonald County scored a pair of runs on singles by Boston Dowd and Ty Shaver and an RBI ground out by Baisch.

Brandon Burt allowed a run in the second on a hit batter, a walk and a fielder’s choice.

McDonald County answered in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Martin.

Stoutsenberger shut out the Wildcats in the third, striking out one.

Purdy scored a run in the first off Charlie Moore, a run in the second off Grant Cooper and two in the third on just one hit off Jorge Ruiz.

McDonald County scored a run in the first on singles by Payne and Trey Black. The Mustangs scored their final two runs in the second on an RBI double by Micah Burkholder and an RBI single by Caleb Curtis.

McDonald County opens the 2017 season on March 17 in the Harrison (Ark.) Tournament. The Mustangs are at Shiloh Christian on March 20 before returning to MCHS for their home opener on March 23 against Neosho.
