Livestock And Forage Conference March 23 in Clever

GALENA — Farmers and ranchers in southwest Missouri are invited to attend this year’s Christian County Livestock and Forage Conference scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at the Clever High School Commons area, located on East State Highway 14 in Clever.

“This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality products for consumers,” according to Tim Schnakenbe­rg, a University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist.

The program this year will focus on three main topics.

Mark Harmon of Joplin Regional Stockyards will discuss ways to improve calf marketing skills.

Jim Spencer, Jr, MU Extension ag business specialist headquarte­red in Ozark, will provide a beef market outlook.

Jennifer Lutes, MU Extension ag business specialist headquarte­red in Pineville, will lead a discussion on how to integrate goats into a farm enterprise.

There will also be farm program updates from the local farm agencies and 4-H and FFA reports.

There is a small fee to attend, and participan­ts should preregiste­r by March 20 to reserve a meal.

A beef brisket meal will be provided courtesy of Christian County Soil and Water Conservati­on District, Joplin Regional Stockyards, Ozark MFA, Christian County Veterinary Service, FCS Financial, the Bank of Billings, Christian County Farm Bureau and Nixa Hardware & Seed.

It is important that attendees are pre-registered with the Christian County Extension Center by March 20.
