Athletes Honored At MCHS Banquet
Athletes from McDonald County High School’s winter sports teams, along with the MCHS cheerleaders and dance team, were honored at a banquet held March 16 at McDonald County High School.
Boys’ Basketball
First-year Mustang coach Kyle Fields recapped his team’s 4-24 season, which included an upset over Cassville in the district tournament at MCHS.
Receiving four-year senior commitment awards were Devon Aubrey, Brandon McAdams, Sergio Dozal and Noah Jones. Individual awards went to Bucky Harrell (Mustang Pride), Saul Garcia (Most Improved), Cooper Reece (Offensive Player of the Year), McAdams (Defensive Player of the Year) and Rustan Lett (Most Charges Taken).
Girls’ Basketball
Coach Blake Short cited the Lady Mustangs’ second place at the Seneca Tournament as a season highlight. McDonald County finished the season with a 7-19 record.
Receiving four-year senior commitment awards were Caitlynn Sedillos, Tricia Wattman and Madison Mitchell. Other awards included Samantha Frazier (Most Steals and Most Improved), Madison Hall (Best Three-Point Percentage), Meagan Mills (Mustang Award), Cloee Helm (Defensive Player of the Year), Ragan Wilson (Most Assists) and Wattman (Most Rebounds, Best Field Goal Percentage, Best Free Throw Percentage and Offensive Player of the Year).
Wrestling
Having five state qualifiers and three state medalists were the highlights for the 2016-2017 Mustang wrestling team. State medalists included Oscar Ortiz (third place), Jakob Gerow (fifth place) and (Tinker Kinser) sixth place. Also qualifying for state were Truman Craig and Kammeron Barnes.

following awards: Craig (Four-Year Senior Commitment and Scholar Athlete), Ortiz (Most Outstanding Wrestler, Most Wins and Newcomer of the Year), Kinser (Most Pins), Gerow (Most Takedowns), Timber Bowers (Most Improved), Johann De La Cruz (Coaches Award) and Kevin Sackyras (Outstanding JV Wrestler).
Cheerleading
The cheerleaders as a team received the Missouri State High School Activities Association Academic Award for having a combined grade point average of over 3.75.
Individual awards presented by coach Jill Dill included four-year senior commitment awards to Abby Bishop, Carlie Dill and Payton Walters. Other awards included Walters (Best Motion Technique), Bishop (Mustang Award), Carlie Dill (Best All-Around), Ally Dill (Best Tumbling), Brooke Cooper (Best Jumps), Joslyn Banta (Best Teammate), Bailey Barrett (Most Responsible) and Caitlynn Stouder (Most Improved).
Dance Team
Presenting awards for the dance team, MC Pom, in its first year was coach Melody Morris. Awards included Addison Poland (Best Facial Expressions), Chloe Morris (Bounce Back Award), Erin Wolfe (Technique Award), Zoey Meador (Silent Surprise), Candice Morris (Dedication Award) and Drew McMurren (Most Improved).
